The Official #1 Tennessee vs Kentucky SEC Tourney Game Thread (Saturday Time TBD EST SEC Network)

Thanks, I really did look but am not techno savy. A little bit surprised the Velo was not higher to get that height AND distance.
Technology is spoiling us. My first thought was, "Why can't we have trajectory height and backspin data as well?"

edit: ...AND relative humidity, AND wind velocity & direction in 100 foot altitude intervals! (Or, I guess we could just trust our eyes and be grateful that we got to witness something special.)

Kentucky should get in. Except for conference records, they have a better resume than Arkansas.
I think their performance last night/this morning (especially given all they'd expended to get to that game) proved that their success against us in Lexington was not a mere meteorological anomaly.

As CTV expressed in his postgame, they've overcome a lot of early season adversity to become a very good team, man-for-man. They deserve to keep playing, and represent the SEC.

Since it's not the football forum, I'll choose the more positive outlook.
Talking about the football forum, In the early innings of the game yesterday there was one obvious particular troll that was trying so hard to get us to take the bait. I was surprised and impressed that nobody engaged with that poster, and they gave up and left. 👏👏👏

Personally, I have ignore so many this season.

There are so many that don't understand that baseball is different that any other sport. There are several games inside the game like chess. Sometimes you out strategize your opponent, sometimes they out strategize you.

The game is not timed so you can't play the clock. You have to pitch to the opposing team to get them out. Every team gets 27 outs, so anything can happen. The more games you watch, the more things you will see that you have never seen before. Because every game will have a different set of pitchers, the outcomes are very unpredictable. Good pitching can neutralize good hitting. Errors and walks give the opponent opportunities. The biggest, fastest, strongest don't always win the game. Their are a lot of pesky players that can make a team's life miserable.

The leader of the team is not the pitcher, it's the catcher. The catcher is the only player facing the field. The catcher has to be smart, a psychologist (pitchers), a diplomate (home plate umpire), and above all tough as nails.

I truly is a great, great sport.

Have the statistics on the Burke blast been posted anywhere? I have gone back through several pages but have not seen them.

On another front. MY PERCEPTION was that the ump was giving strikes below the knee and in the first base side river, especially on the first and second pitches to ESPECIALLY on our batters. Game is over and emotions now out of play, so what say you?

It is apparent that TV has limited our guys to eye rolls and step backs when our guys are at bat. That can change the dynamics of plate appearances. A couple of times when they actually showed some side shots of suspect calls some strikes on Honcho were mid shin at best. His knees are where they are and the strikes should be called accordingly. I am getting more and more in favor of electronic strike zone assistance once it is perfected. High and low will be tougher but crossing the 17" plate should be pretty simple if a holographic view of the plate Iis possible. If it does not break the area above the plate it is a ball. Judgement will be limited to bottom of the knee to the letter area for the ump. If he pushes a button and the machine confirms the plate width a strike is awarded. Even if machines differ a little, it would be consistent.
I umpired at a very low level during college. As someone whose first love was baseball, and played competitively on travel teams, all star teams, and throughout high school, I was surprised at how hard umpiring was. Admittedly, I was a poor umpire with a wide strike zone, but I knew exactly when I missed a ball or strike call. Point being is umpiring is difficult and even the elite will miss several balls/strikes per game. Personally, I don’t want robo umpires but just more accountability so clowns like Macias don’t run unchecked.

Good advice on the ignore button. I need to take it. 👍🍊

That’s how you get rid of trolls. They stay hungry…just don’t feed them.

Their RPI is still in 50s
You can’t just show up for 4 weekends and expect to make tourney
Sorry
Look at this way, they have 8 months to work on new and better choreography
Listening to the broadcast last night, the argument was made that you have to look at teams that are moving in the right direction at the end as compared to teams headed the other direction, examples (Ole Miss, Arkansas, Vandy, Miss. State, etc.). Some teams have injuries and get players back in the line up that can make difference. There are several teams that started out poorly and progressed, examples (LSU, Texas A&M, Kentucky).

But, like they also said, I would hate to be on the committee. There have been over 6,000?? college baseball games this season. No one has watched every team play.

They also mentioned that the NCAA is moving away from the RPI. They seemed to agree that RPI holds too much weight in the equation, and decision making process.

I know one thing for certain, that cannot be disputed, your Tennessee Volunteers are the #1 team in the NCAA and second is not even close.

Yea, but my point is Arkansas is guaranteed. Don’t just look at the RPI number as it’s an index. You have to break it down to the record within the index. Arkansas is RPI 42, has 4 less Q1wins than UK, and Arkansas beat no one out of conference while UK took a series from TCU. Arkansas just gets the benefit from its name.

Wilkerson does a good job of letting us know if what’s called a strike is actually a strike.
I’m in favor of electronic assistance for a couple of reasons, the main one being how officials can subjectively influence the game, as we’ve seen with other cases. They change their strike zone during the game. You get some jackass like the one during the Bama series and it can cause irreversible damage.
