The Official #1 Tennessee vs UGA Last Home Series Thread (Thurs. 7PM EST ESPNU) (Fri. 5:30PM EST SEC Network) (Sat. 1PM EST SEC Network+)

I was watching a game a long time ago where Tommy was the third base coach for the Dodgers and Pete Rose was the third baseman for the Reds, and Lasorda was miked. He was constant chatter, always talking. During a lull in the game, he said to Pete: "Hey, Pete, we held a vote in the Dodger locker room to see who was the best looking Red, and you came is second." Rose bought it hook line and sinker and said, "Really?" as if maybe that could be true. Lasorda said, "Yep, everyone else tied for first." Rose gave a groan and a deflated look at Lasorda. I laughed hard at the two of those goofy guys. I loved me some Lasorda. Hilariously funny guy.

i see them saving Joyce for the last inning or two, just to start getting him ready for a closer role in the tournaments ahead. I don't have a clue as to who will be the starter. I guess it depends on how they want to start setting up their rotation and bullpen roles for Hoover and beyond. But they have to keep in mind Tuesday's game and leave someone to pitch that one.

I would definitely rest Russell and Lawson today. They deserve some time off, especially Russell, although I might DH him so he can keep his mojo going at the plate. I'd also start the rest of the position players and sit them after a few AB's and let second string take over in the second half. I would try to win this game, but not at the expense of running my starters into the ground.

Exactly! We now the unusual opportunity to fine tune the machine over the course of the next five games. For one, I would like to see Burke play some in the field.

For this year, I don't see Joyce as a closer. More of a thrower; not yet a pitcher. Throwing that hard is a great asset, but at this point, I don't think he is yet in our top-8 pitchers. But, still nice to have out there because he can get the team out of a jam with strikeouts.

It's true that he's a thrower, and not a pitcher. Yet. Also true that having a guy to come in to get a SO at a critical time in the game is huge. But I see a need for more than two closers in the tournaments ahead. So, if not Joyce, who?

A scout sat near us for Thursday’s game. We started talking about who he was there to see. He said Tennessee guys. I asked him which Georgia guys he was there to see, and he said none of them other than Cannon on Friday night. He said that the Tate brothers were too old. He thought one would get drafted late or possible free agent deal.

There were a bunch of scouts at last night’s game. Among other guys, the Dodgers scout sure was watching Camden.

Speaking of pitching, does Ethan Smith just have too much talent in front of him? It's been wild, which Frank doesn't have to tolerate this year.

The Tate brothers look like they are about 28ish. lol

I watched a bit of UGA vs Candybilt last Sunday. The dawgs brought in a pitcher with great Tom Selleck stache who looked about 35 years old.
