2022 MLB Draft: Six Rising Infield/Catching Prospects

Trey Lipscomb, 3B, Tennessee– Heading into the spring season, Lipscomb was viewed by most as a mid Day Three selection, at best. He had always been a talented prospect, but he just needed the opportunity to play every day. As an everyday starter this spring, he has produced a .358/.425/.788 slash line with 16 home runs and 61 RBI. Numbers like these are excellent for any conference, but he’s producing in the SEC. At 6-foot-1, 195-pounds he’s lean and dense-massed with excellent core strength. When he hits the ball it just makes a different sound and he consistently finds the barrel for hard contact. Defensively, Lipscomb shows plus arm strength and projects to be at least average at third base at the pro level. There are some footwork inconsistencies that he will need to iron out in the future, but Lipscomb shows all of the needed abilities to stick on the dirt. As a fourth-year junior, he might be a little older than much of the 2022 college draft class, but his performance stands out for the best team in the best conference in the country. Expect Lipscomb to be considered around the 4th round this July.

Of note, in his pregrame interview, CV said that they discovered Jared Dickey had a small fracture in foot.
