I don't think Blade goes to bullpen. He has admitted in interviews that he struggles with the bullpen mindset. It is totally different and most P5 bullpen guys were starters in HS. I told a recruit this weekend that is a current starter that if he plays summer ball he better get some bullpen experience because it is tough. Kirby only came in as a reliever 3 times in 4 years of varsity ball in HS. It is a totally different change in getting ready then sitting down and then getting ready again maybe multiple times and some times not coming in at all. Or them saying you have 2 minutes to get ready. Many guys struggle making the change from starter to bullpen guy because of the difference. As a starter you usually know exactly when you are going to pitch and get in a routine mentally and physically. I don't know if Dollander can do it either so we will see how it goes.
That's the kind of thing I've always heard about starting vs bullpen. We have four games per week. If we have four starters, then that will work. If that causes not enough work for current bullpen and midweek starter, then we might be able to limit the starter's inning in the interest of keeping them fresh over the season. Just a thought.
