The Official #10 @ #17 North Carolina Game Thread, 7:15 PM ET, ESPN

Tennessee has also faced the 7th toughest schedule so far, according to KenPom.

The only teams that have played tougher schedules so far are low major teams that are getting their clocks cleaned. It remains to be seen if this schedule will pay any dividends, though.

We just have to hope that Knecht‘s injury isn’t serious and that he can be full strength when conference play starts. If it’s a bad or lingering injury, this season might just go completely off the rails.
It will pay dividends if only knecht isn’t out too long. It really all rides on him. He is the main key to ignition. We saw in the second half what he can do.
Season won’t go off rails, but the ceiling of the team is dramatically different.

This program is cursed. We are not meant to win a championship in any sport. Every time we feel good about something we lose a critical player.

The most disappointing thing is that we just don’t get to watch Dalton Knecht play basketball. We get one year of him, and now it’s unclear how much we’ll actually see him this year.

Doesn’t help that I’m now not sure where this team is going to find points from if Knecht isn’t on the floor. He changed this team and you saw that tonight.
ZZ is still not himself. Dillione is out. Awaka is hobbled. Vescovi is...well..MIA. All those guys should return, but I doubt we can count on them anytime soon. I just can't see us depending on JJJ and Vescovi to carry us. Looks like we will need to force feed some of our talented freshmen and hope they respond. Probably gonna take some lumps this season.

38 Free throws to 16
48, 22, 38 = 108 opponent
30, 8, 16 = 54 Tennessee.
Last 3 games FT totals.

Lost by an average of 7.
We didn’t play well tonight but making 7 more baskets than your opponent and losing by 8 is tough. Would be nice for the whistle to go our way in a meaningful game every once in a while.

Wes Rucker with beautiful news on Knecht

“I'm *not* a doctor, but Dalton Knecht is walking back to Tennessee's bus. No walking boot. No crutches. Limping a little, but walking on his own and seems to be in good spirits.

Still gonna get scanned and all that, but seeing him walk like that was good.”
best news i’ve heard all year.

This is not a coincidence or a conspiracy theory. We do not play a style of basketball that gets you to the free throw line.

Its very unfortunate that our defense couldn't stop anything UNC was throwing at them first half. It wasn't simply a matter of good shooting from UNC, but they moved the ball inside and out on us getting wide open looks wherever they wanted. We were on our heels and despite all the substitutions, it seemed Barnes had no answer to stop their attack.

But the team kept chipping away on offense and eventually were able to get some stops and adjust to UNCs offense. We shot 55% in the Dean Smith Center. That's ridiculously good! We were scoring at will inside. If Gainey is a bit nore efficient from 3 or UNC is limited to fewer free throws, then this game could have easily ended differently. Very proud of the fight. I attended this game live and was close to walking out at half.

It’s not that our opponents are shooting more ft’s than us. It’s the crazy number of fouls being called against us. I didn’t see defensive initiated contact from us on a number of those calls, and some with no contact at all. Baycott is a good player, but it’s not a foul when Baycott jumps into Aidoo.

The officials are ruining the sport.

From watching the replay it looked like he rolled his left ankle. Probably going to swell and be out for 2 or so weeks if I had to guess.

They are ruining it for all sports.

An impressive note from the article:

"Knecht had 37 points on 17 shots in 37 minutes, tying the record for the most ever scored by an opposing player at the Dean Smith Center. La Salle’s Lionel Simmons scored 37 in January 1988 and Knecht would’ve had a chance to break the record at the foul line had he not been injured."
