What even makes worse about the knecht injury. He grew up that game, especially second half. Stronger with the ball, made the right passes, and double teams weren’t near an issues. He was creating for himself and others. Just depressing he got hurt honestly….

Very depressing. A loss is frustrating because that’s a game I thought we were more than capable of winning. A loss with our only consistent source of offense, and arguably the best offensive player we’ve seen in a very long time, getting injured makes it even worse. Hopefully his injury is only a bad sprain.

For what it is worth. The offense went from like 55th nationally to 34 after the game on Kenpom. Defense fell to third on Kenpom. Tennessee can be around top 30 offense and play defense like they normally do. They will be fine. First half defense was an anomaly imo. But man…. It honestly all rides on how long knecht is out..

So glad we get almost a week off before George Mason. Get back home, get back into our routine, and work.
I'm not. Three straight losses and only 2 games in two weeks. This team needs a lot more work against opponents because based on the first half, practice isn't doing them any favors come game time.

Pick any UT sport then identify a player or two that you just can't afford to lose and watch them get injured. Happened in football with Mays, Bru and Pili. Looks like it's Knecht for hoops this year, and any Vol fan with BVS knows exactly who will be the football player getting hit next season. I dare not speak the name, but you know it's coming.

This program is cursed. We are not meant to win a championship in any sport. Every time we feel good about something we lose a critical player.

The most disappointing thing is that we just don’t get to watch Dalton Knecht play basketball. We get one year of him, and now it’s unclear how much we’ll actually see him this year.

Doesn’t help that I’m now not sure where this team is going to find points from if Knecht isn’t on the floor. He changed this team and you saw that tonight.

You’re not a bright one.
Again, which part of my statement isn't fact. Clearly your only comeback is "your not that bright" shows you cannot form an opinion that is relevant enough to change the fact that the Vols are on a 3 game losing streak where they didn't make the stops they needed to and were grossly out rebounded.

Grant always got the tough buckets when needed
Yep, he was rare tho. Hard to find 6”7 240 guys that could move like him. He was mismatch at the 4 cuz of size and mismatch for the 5 because of the speed. Awaka prob won’t ever have that in game, but he has shown signs he can bully in the post and back down to the rim

I can't believe that this game ended up as close as it did.
I can—I took a live bet at TN +15.5 towards halftime. 1st half was a complete outlier. We missed Tobe big time tonight. Rebounding was atrocious. The rotation is still funky and not completely cohesive. If DK misses a few weeks I’d like to see Rick go ZZ, Santi, James, Awaka, and Aidoo. Gainey 6th man. We need to force feed SV shots. James had a good game but again was way too trigger shy in the late 2nd half. We’re a great team and still trying to gel. Injuries are not going to speed it up w/TA and DK out now. 3 really tough opponents in a row away from home. Looking forward to getting these guys back to Ktown and resetting. This is still going to be a great season. What a performance by DK tonight. TN has the talent, but just has to find the right rotational fits.

Not sure what to think about that one. Great comeback after that absolute debacle of a first half. Just didn’t appear ready to compete at the start and that’s not like a Barnes team. Very poor defensive effort which also ain’t like a Barnes team. The free throw discrepancies are a big question. Even though we don’t have much of an inside game, it’s hard for me to believe these teams earn twice as many FT’s as we do. Something not right there.

Two big concerns now. One is the lack of an inside game along with rebounding. Lack of size is going to hurt. Just don’t think we are going very far with the small lineup and JJJ playing center. #2 now is Knecht’s injury and how long he’ll be out. It did not look good. He is electric and is the one player we have that can go get a basket just about anytime he wants. Hope it’s just a sprain and nothing worse.

The good news is that we have had the roughest stretch of games that I can recall anybody playing in a row. Hoping it toughens them up for the conference games.

Tobe and Aidoo will never be on the court together. It was the worst offensive lineup last year when the were.

Tennessee has also faced the 7th toughest schedule so far, according to KenPom.

The only teams that have played tougher schedules so far are low major teams that are getting their clocks cleaned. It remains to be seen if this schedule will pay any dividends, though.

We just have to hope that Knecht‘s injury isn’t serious and that he can be full strength when conference play starts. If it’s a bad or lingering injury, this season might just go completely off the rails.
