So...if Santi really is out this will be a game that we either dominate inside and see ON, Aidoo, Uros, or Awaka really have a night to help out the guards OR we'll have to see ZZ, Key, Mashack, and/or BJ Edwards just go all out.

Probably need ON or Awaka to really do well with whoever they get in that 4 spot matchup.

Time for ON to grow a pair and man up.

Post-Texas, he has pulled a Houdini.

Basilio:

Vescovi sick, taking IVs, not expected to play.

JJJ being saved for year end. They need to see him healthy in practice before putting him in a game.

JP: missed what his “sources” said about his status.

8 players tonight.
If true, I suppose my night is free.

A&M is a small ball type team. Marble is the only 6'8" player getting minutes, and then Coleman at 6'7"

So either you can use our size to take advantage or our bigs will get taken advantage of on defense. Either way probably see a lot of fouls being called on us (again) because A&M lives at the FT line with how their players attack the rim.

12th in conference in 3PA at just 19 a game. But they are first in FTAs with 25.1 a game. They are also last in conference in FGAs per game with just 55.3 (again they live at the charity stripe and try to slow games down).

Not sure what CRB will do, but from my arm-chair I'd rotate Uros/Aidoo at the 5 (never play both together). And I'd rotate ON/Awaka at the 4 (only play both if the other bigs are in foul trouble).

Then I'd tell the team, push transition and no clean look is a bad shot. Try to win with volume because every team that beat A&M hit at least 23 field goals to do it.

The NBA really does need to pare back the number of games. I feel bad for fans who save up for months to be able to go to a game only for the star players to be benched for that game because they’re out of gas.

Something definitely needs to change. I blame the teams even more than the individual players. Didn't the Spurs head coach start all this nonsense by sitting Duncan and Parker ?

While Marble and Coleman aren’t overly tall, they are thick. Each around 250 lbs.

Yeah both have a similar body type to Awaka, not sure either is as explosive or strong as him...but they'll be able to give ON/Aidoo trouble inside I think. I think Uros and Awaka could out muscle them.

Hate that for Vescovi. He had a really good second half offensively against Kentucky. The rest doesn't sound too optimistic. Looking forward to seeing who fills in the gaps tonight.

I’ll be watching this game at the Council Bluffs Hooters, and I’ll be changing my avatar to a Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) before this game begins.

You mean college athletes who signed up for this shouldn’t take criticism because their feelings might get hurt?

What a soft mentality.

Good lawwwwd all mighty! I don't even know. I guess that is the norm. Welcome to 2023 in America. If they signed up to be coached to get the best they can be and can't take being yelled at then they got no hope anyways.

Barnes has let this team play fast on numerous occasions. However, we usually turn it over or come back out front to set up a half court set as we don’t have anyone who can finish. I didn’t realize we would miss KC this much.

Exactly. Coach K spouted out more four letter words than Bobby Knjght. Barnes may ride tbeee kids but he doesn’t throw out F bombs. Read the lips of other coaches during a game. 90% lose control of their emotions.

Over the last three games, the Vols own a +9.3 scoring margin in the second half and average 42.3 points after halftime.

Just need that for BOTH halves and we can win. Amazing to have that sort of second half scoring margin and still be 1-2 in those 3 games.

They dig a hole & Jump in it.

Caught an A & M media cover guy on Basilio today. Tony asked how does TN beat A & M. Guy said that A & M defense basically crowds the paint and leaves outside 3 point shots open, especially in the corners. They have the attitude that if you make a bunch of 3's, tip of the hat to you for the win. Otherwise, they don't give up interior points easily. Guy said that if a team hits 10+ 3 pointers, then it's the path to victory against A & M.

I agree they need to get out in transition but it seems Barnes has shut off the fast break in his offense. Tennessee has 15 fast break points in its last 8 games.

I think that he got bad info from Big Jim on poaching the Purdue football coach and he’s never lived that one down. Hyams is very accurate with almost 100% of his reporting. Tony B not so much - but he isn’t afraid to throw out the off limits stuff.

But enough about those guys. This is the official TxAM game thread.

BTW, BJE is one of the 8 available. Whistling touch fouls and putting a TN guard in early foul trouble will decide the game.
I like Hyams, but he’s not a “personality.” Hyams does well because he has a large corporate network behind him. Plus he’s a journalist.

Tony is a personality. He’s had some incredibly good breaking stuff in the last few years. That’s a fact. He’s doesn’t lick boots and lets the callers drive his program. It’s obviously worked.

A&M and Buzz can suck it!

5 of their 7 losses, the opponent hit 10 3PT shots or more. They have only won 3 games where they gave up 10 or more 3 point makes.
