The Official #13 Tennessee vs. Presbyterian Game Thread, 7:00 PM ET, SEC Network

Really frustrating Barnes continues to give Bailey minutes over Powell. If Bailey’s not hitting 3s he provides next to nothing besides decent on ball defense. He’s not good at defending in bounds passes in particular. In his last 10 games going back to last season, he’s shooting 22% on 5 threes a game, before his shooting last night it was at 17% in the last 9. Not a great attitude as you saw in the Villanova game, really our only player who plays selfishly.

Classic case of Barnes giving too much deference to seniority/defense. Hope when JJJ comes back he gets relegated to 10 mins a game

I believe Barnes determines how much time he gets by how he plays in each game. If he is taking bad shots or off, then he wouldn't get as much time in the second half. I am pretty sure at one point last night in the first half, Bailey led the team with 9 points, was 2-4 from 3, and had our only FT's. With that, he earned more time. Powell still played 3 more minutes.

Oddly, Plavsic was first post in both the first and second halves.

Barnes seems to really want to develop him this season, and is giving him minutes that could otherwise go to BHH's development time. Perhaps he is motivating BHH by giving minutes to Uros, or perhaps he genuinely sees something in Plavsic and thinks he may turn into something here. BHH seems to be coming along nicely despite it. Maybe coach knows he needs both players to succeed in March. He knows best cause he's the coach, but it is interesting to watch this play out.

Playing time is strongly correlated to their productivity in practice time. Plus Uros can play two more years after the current season. UP’s offense seems to be improved with the true point guards on the court. He’s really good with the passing aspect… sending and receiving. Uros can be very useful if he can develop a mean streak. Rambis. Laimbeer.

Still, Powell has earned through his play the right to start. And probably would if Barnes didn’t lend a massive credence to experience and defense. Think inserting Powell into the starting lineup, or even bringing him as first off the bench once JJJ is back, would help alleviate some slow starts we’ve had, including last night

Powell is recovering from the flu. He probably can’t go as many minutes as you want Barnes to give him.

Listen to the Powell and CRB interviews after Prespretarin game and you might change your opinions on how game minutes are allotted

I watch the postgame media interviews as soon as they come out on youtube, already watched them both and KCs

He actually went 9+ minutes in one stretch last night and seemed to not flinch. Said afterwards he was feeling great on the court. IV fluids work wonders.

At this point, I am choosing to believe it is a "rewarding a player that does all the right things early in the season when the games are not as important" situation. When SEC play starts, if he still gets 10 minutes per game I will not be on board with that.

I agree. I just want BHH to have the minutes that are so valuable experience-wise. I also know Barnes is who he is and why Plavsic is getting the minutes he’s getting.

He might be more comfortable coming off the bench. Don’t get too worked up over who “starts” a game with a roster this deep. Powell actually played 3 more minutes than Bailey did.

I can't get over the fact we have four players 6' 10" or taller. When was the last time that happened at UT? Has it ever? I kept thinking last night, "Damn! We got some trees out there! I didn't think we were allowed those at this school!"
