The Official #15 Tennessee vs Iona Weekend Series Thread (Friday 4:30PM) (Saturday 1PM) (Sunday 1PM)

Positively dominate performance this weekend by the BaseVols. While the quality of the competition is questionable, the way the players and coaches went about their business was impressive. With a lesser opponent you do what the Vols did, put them down early and keep them there. Got to see many young guys play a significant amount of time which is always good for the dugout.
Time to lace up the spikes a notch tighter against ETSU and then even more over the weekend. As always, Go Vols.

In my opinion, CDS did a really good job of setting the table for CTV and CFA . . . he had talent in the cupboard but I think CDS made a lot of inroads to recruiting within the state and just look at our roster . . . many many Tennessee kids. Just my $0.02 . . .
Despite the lack of success, there was not a big culture problem that created a hole to dig out of for a new coach.

I'm just glad the series is over at last. Watching the games was like watching people clubbing baby seals to death. Really hard to watch, imo.

Yeah, there isn’t much to takeaway from these past 3 games. At times, it just became Iona walking in run after run, not necessary because we were just that much better, just that they were so bad.

Hopefully it did give TV a better idea of how deep this team is and who should get more playing time or who could step in where in case of an injury.

Should’ve been a one off mid week game, but you can only play whose put on your schedule.

How? They are one of the worst teams in Div. 1. They have won 6 games in 2 years. My high school would have given them a run for their money. A top Juco program would rake them. All this game did was allow them to stat pad. This was like a video game on beginner mode with all the sliders turned up. It did nothing to improve anyone. I hope this does not lead to complacency.

Because players who normally wouldn’t get playing time got some this weekend.

Yes, we all know Iona is terrible and would likely lose to several high school teams. It’s been very well established across the various pages of this thread.

From a coaching perspective, games will always be different than practice, so if there’s anything to takeaway, some guys got to make their case in a real game.

Nothing to really argue about.

Something I’ve been thinking about this week...
We can all probably agree that while Dave Serrano didn’t exactly get the results in the W/L column, he’s a pretty dang good baseball coach and knows how to run a program. Did he leave a solid enough foundation within the program and lay the groundwork to help Vitello get some early success or do we not give him any credit for the state of the program?
It’s just always been a mystery to me, why he didn’t have more success with this program.
GBO!!
Small ball vs Dong ball

I know there is a midweek game. But next weekend is there a way to watch that series or is it some pay per view type deal?
