The Official #16 Tennessee vs UNC Asheville Game Thread (Wednesday 4:30PM)

How would like to be standing in the batters box as RH when facing Ben Joyce .. bringing it at 103 .. with a tad wildness .. dont dig in .. and just hope u can get out of the way .. lol

I know. Back in the day we had a pitcher that hit about 5 guys in one game and he tossed a no hitter in one game and another 4-5 innings in the next one. Itchy feet in the box.

With Ben Joyce being the talk of baseball last night. Tennessee needs to invest in several 4k cameras and have the biggest following on ESPN+.

The baseball lock out could get some extra TV time with a better looking broadcast

Ben was still the talk of the baseball sphere this morning, and was talked about on SEC This Morning on Sirius XM and several local SEC morning sports shows. He's definitely caught people's attention.

After five games, I'm encouraged by our bullpen. They've collectively had a strong start. Excited to see what they can continue to do and get to know the new players.

Just getting around to posting, but yesterday was fun. And Joyce whew boy. I remember watching Florida and Scar longing for the days of having guys who throw triple digits. Now we have more than one with a cherry on top in Joyce throwing 104. This is fun.

Are we watching a future MLB All-Star?

2 things about Joyce:

1. Since he was a Freshman in HS, he was always a tic ahead of the others in speed. And as each year went on, he increased the gap. He was throwing above 95 as a 17-18 yr old. While with Walters State he surprisingly stole the show in Chipola and ESPN+ captured it. 2 years ago he hit 97 as a 19 year old. Ticked closer to 100 then hit it in 2020...boom, Tommy John in late 2020. Had a great Doctor do the work (you don't just pick anyone) I hear the kid is a physical specimen of a beast in terms of work out and stands 6'5", 225 lbs. It's more than just arm action. He checks a lot of boxes and that 3/4 slot arm funk action eases the stress a bit.

We will see how this plays out. Tennessee only has him for one year. Coach V won't burn thru this kid.

2. How about his walk out song, AC/DC's "Shoot to Thrill".....lyrics like

I'm gonna take you down
Oh, down, down, down
So, don't you fool around
I'm gonna pull it, pull it, pull the trigger
Shoot to thrill, play to kill

I was born in Greenfield, raised all over . . . then moved back to Greenfield in '99 and left again in '17 . . . My father is still there and many family members still in and around the area . . . I take it you are from Paris?

Yes sir. I graduated from Murray State in 1988 and lived there until 1995, when I was hired to teach social studies in Eldorado, IL (Point of reference, Eldorado is an hour north of Paducah, KY). My mom moved up here in 2013. I don't get back to West Tennessee nearly as often as I should.
