The Official #18 Tennessee vs. #15 Kansas Game Thread, 6:00 PM ET, ESPN

Lol, McClung would be leading this team in scoring and we would more than likely be undefeated right now. He’s better than any guard on our roster at this point in their career.
Lmao.

Springer/Pons/Johnson all with a better fg%, Bailey/Springer/Johnson with better 2pt%, Springer/Vescovi with better 3pt%, James/Vescovi/Springer/Johnson better RPG, Vescovi/Springer/James with better APG, everyone except Johnson with better TOPG.

Literally the only area he is “better” in is PPG, and that’s because he takes 4 more shots a game than anyone on our roster. How many mock drafts have McClung going 1st round?

Not to mention McClung isn't exactly known to be above average on defense. We have a volume shooting guard whose playing time has diminished because of his defense. Fit within team concept means something and I don't think he would fit and obviously Barnes didn't. That doesnt mean he isn't a good player.

To be fair his shooting percentages and turnover percentages would probably be a lot better here than they have been at GT and TT because he would not need to shoulder as much offensive responsibility
And while I don't think the NBA draft is a very accurate measure of who helps the team the most (I'd rather have senior Admiral than freshman Keon on this team), its not like all of our guards are projected first rounders. Nobody is supposing that we should have not taken Jaden or Keon to have room for Mac

Not debating whether he's better than our guards or not (I couldnt care less actually) but to be fair to him...his defense won the game for them yesterday. He played really good defense yesterday and rarely do you see a player hustle like he does. IDK anything about the kid but I completely trust Rick with offering or not offering. He may not have fit into our culture BUT CLEARLY he's lighting it up at TT.

McClung has consistently been a volume shooter for 3 years, who says he stops doing that here? And if you look at games with fewer FGA he doesn’t shoot a better percentage, so that theory kinda goes out the window. Again, he’s similar to Bailey but a worse defender, we already struggle to get all those guys minutes, if you want to agree with the OP and say he’s a better guard than anyone we have go ahead, I’ll say you’re wrong too.

Can you imagine our team with McClung? We would easily be one of the best 4 teams in the country. Barnes whiffed on that one as he wanted to come here.
Barnes whiffed? Do you live to criticize him or do you just speak without thinking? You really are an embarrassment to yourself.

What a laughable take. There is more to playing basketball than PPG btw. I don't know if you know this.

That stat about the FG percentage is compelling, but also I think he would receive less attention here because there are other offensive threats
He’s not a better guard than all of our guards we have but I would rather have him than Bailey, I don’t think he’s really much of a worst defender than Bailey and I think he’s a better offensive player. I think he shoots so much cause he’s had to, I think it’s fair that I would expect him to dial that back were he here, but reasonable people can disagree about that

Are you proposing CRB should have pulled a scholarship from one of his existing players and given it to MM when CRB already had 5 wings on his roster that were (2) 4* and (3) 5* and he liked them all? Your not real big on loyalty it would appear

So you would have just cut Bailey to add an unknown? How do you think that would affect team chemistry?

No and no. I’m just saying in a vacuum I think McClung would have been better, in a world where we hadn’t taken Bailey. It’s just a discussion

The dude doesn’t watch basketball, he just looks at the game recaps for Tennessee and only posts when we lose. I’ve never seen a more negative poster in the bb forum.

Fair enough, but our roster was set with wings a full year before McClung hit the portal which makes it a bit pointless to say CRB should have taken McClung instead of player X. Now if you want to say McClung is better than player X currently on our roster then you could have a legit debate and many would agree with you

Ok, I guess that’s what I’m saying. I think this team with McClung would have been better than this team with Bailey, but I recognize that a straight swap like that wasn’t really in the cards without cutting loose a player, which I’m against

I didn’t reply to someone making a case for him over Bailey though, I replied to someone saying he’s better than any of our guards, and you chose to reply to that. I’ve said I think he’s similar to Bailey, so yes a case could be made for either, but again that wasn’t the original point.

He copies and pastes his talking points from Tony Basilio. The McClung worship, the constant digs about Barnes’s salary, it all sounds exactly like an episode of Basilio.

So you think Anosike was a better take than McClung? Dang BTO I thought you were smarter than that.

Sorry to disappoint. Trust me, I’ve watched a lot of basketball going back to Ernie and Bernie days.

You know what I’m saying, Regardless of position, McClung would have been Much more valuable to this team than Anosike
yes, yes he knew that. Does it matter? No. You were critical of Barnes roster choices therefore you must suffer his wrath.

LMAO...b-ball forum becoming too much like the political forum with it's myopic hypocrisy. Any reasonable poster who has been around here more than a week or two knows how this game is played...CRB passes on McClung and it's bad roster management (even though we would have had to boot one of our other 4/5 star scholarship players and we would have failed to address our greatest need which was a post player)....CRB takes McClung and it's bad roster management (why do we have so many guards and why did we not get a post which any first-year coach could see was our greatest need).

Criticism is fine where deserved but non-stop drivel from certain posters, which is very few mind you given all reasonable fans are quite happy with where our program is currently, only exposes their agenda.
