The Official #19 Tennessee vs. Texas A&M Game Thread, 3:30 PM ET, CBS

The officiating crew that worked hard at throwing that game should be fired. If we can’t officiate a game better than that, sports are toast. Same goes for basketball, baseball, and all sports. Phillies and Braves officiating was horrible.
Many years ago I would watch a lot of college BB games. But as the years went by I have limited myself to only UT games. And the reason is because of the officiating. It was very evident that the officials were judgmental in doing their jobs and at times the teams on the court did not seem to be the focus of "the game."

Officiating IS a judgmental job. Umpires, referees, and officials ARE responsible for making a judgement based on the rules and their training and understanding of the rules on plays that happen within fractions of a second and process it in their brains according to those rules and understanding of them within a few seconds. Due to advances in tv technology, 4k cameras, multiple camera angles etc, we FANS see more instantly and in slow motion and become judgmental ourselves.

Agree but, when the announcers are questioning a call, the players and coaches are obviously upset over the call, it takes seconds to look at replay and correct the call and move on, do that. It seems the money in sports drives decisions and not the play. It also seems like there are multiple players holding every play. Open to ideas. Maybe sit players down that hold or don’t call holding at all. Finally, what are the well paid SEC folks in the HQ doing all week. Make them watch film sent in by Coaches. Create an after the fact penalty for the next game. Due to gross penalties not called, fine the offenders or spot the less penalty committed team a few points.

Im not sure what the SEC HQ does all week, unfortunately Im not on their need to know list. LOL. I do know that officiating crews are reviewed and graded on a weekly basis and there are reprimands in place. Thats all I know. I am friends with two active SEC baseball umpires, one SEC football ref. Trust me when I say they won't tell you anything! Believe me Ive tried! All I have ever gotten out of any of them is that for baseball rules test any score below 95% correct is an automatic failure. I agree you can call something on every play. Im not sure what the answer is. I am a HS official and I know how fast things move and happen on the field. I don't have blind loyalty, I believe that a few bad apples spoils the whole bunch. If I have a bad apple on my crew I lobby to get them re-assigned, I don't like being put in a position to pick up slack for someone not doing their job. Again more HD cameras on the field compared to years ago allows the fans to see things more clearly and from different angles on replays that wern't there years ago therefore more backlash by all involved, but what hasn't changed is how fast things happen. Trying to watch 10+ big large linemen go hard at each other at the same time is difficult. You see an OL hand hit the facemask of the DL for a split second is it hands to the face? Was the OL hand position clean and the DL drop low to push by the OL causing the hand to the face? You see it in a millisecond and have a second or less to process, whats your call? Incidental or penalty? You can find things lie that all over the place every play. Yes the two no PI calls burned me up. In my humble opinion there wasn't anything there to no call that. so do we slow the games to a crawl and use reviews every other play and turn 2.5 to 3 hour games to 4+ hour games and completely destroy the flow and momentum of a game? Like you I don't know what the answer is, but I agree that some of these crews need to do much better. Maybe adding another official position on the field? Do we move from 7 to eight on the field? Sometimes I think one more would be beneficial. Cheers.

Great game if you were not a fan of either team and wanted a close one. As a Tennessee fan, the struggles on offense, specifically passing game, are frustrating to watch. In the words of JJ Grey….”brighter days”. A win is a win and that could have easily been a loss. Agree the D rise to the challenge. Officiating was horrible.
That was a horrible game to watch no matter who you were a fan of.

Watching your team lose 100 to nothing would be a horrible game to watch. That was a nail biter. Agree that both sides made mistakes but, a lot of good plays resulted in the other team looking bad. It was a battle we won and as others have said...Texas A&M is not a bad team. Even Vandy threatened UGA and Mizzou beat Kentucky this weekend. Id rather win ugly than lose a moral victory.

He won't because he's to loyal to his coaches. Just like Fulmer used to be. He would rather lose than try Nico for a series or two
This loyalty thing is starting to look like a red flag.
If Milton had not been injured last season, Hooker would have never have gotten his chance.
For some reason, Heupel watched these two QB's all through fall camp and decided that Howitzer Joe should start over Hooker.
He did the same thing at Central Florida when he ran off Brady Cook, who is now killing it for Missouri.
Starting to make me wonder.
