Peru should be very proud of their WC appearance.

Sad to see Cahill finish his career. He scored the first WC goal ever for Australia in 2006 and they advanced out of group stage, but have only 1 WC win in 3 appearances since.

Not a coincidence they are performing better when expectations are lower. Which is ironic, because they've brought a squad this time that is more talented than their 2014 and 2010 teams, IMO.

England is like Notre Dame in that they have (underserved) high expectations, tradition, and money, but occasionally do play well, typically when for whatever reason expectations aren't as high.

Argentina does not control its own destiny, right? They need help even with a W?

If Iceland also wins, it would appear they need to get better than them on goal differential.

I hate that penalty call mainly because of the inconsistency of that being called. That’s happened almost every other game but now it’s this obvious call?

In the Switzerland Serbia game a Serbian attacker gets sandwiched from both sides from something far more egregious yet that doesn’t even get reviewed.

I don’t mind that being a penalty, but I just wish it was consistent match to match.

I don’t understand players like mascherano. You are an experienced veteran who should be there specifically to prevent plays like this from happening.

Argentina’s defense has been so unorganized throughout this tournament.

Also an interesting call given the beneficiary of it (Nigeria)...you know "they" want Argentina to go through.

Which is why they, despite Messi/Higuain/Aguero, are simply a "better than average" team that happened to play below average in this tournament.

Once you get past those 3, they really aren't anything special. Not bad, but also not championship-caliber. They've got to get a keeper, develop some defenders, and develop some midfielders besides Di Maria.

Interesting how they don’t call that a handball but they call the one against Portugal yesturday against Iran. So much inconsistency in this tournament. The first penalt for Nigeria isn’t a penalty in some games but is during this game. The handball this game isn’t a penalty this game but was during the game yesturday.

So much controversy.
