The Official 2018 FIFA World Cup Thread

I feel like I’m in the twilight zone.

80 minutes into the game Germany is tied with South Korea at 0-0 and at the same time Sweden is beating Mexico 3-0

Unbelievable!

This is the strangest world cup since I've been watching. No Netherlands, no Italy, Germany is likely out for the first time in group stage and none of the remaining traditional powers look that scary.

Germany was so off and uncharacteristic this tournament. So much complacency.

What a wide open tournament. This is Brazil’s to lose in my opinion.

Absolutely miserable World Cup from Germany. Germany is a team in something of a transition with some of their old guys gone like Klose, Schweinsteiger, Lahm, etc. but there's still more talent on that team than what their results show.

Guess I'll be pulling for Argentina now.

I feel like Germany is a team who plays better when they aren’t the favorite.

They’ve always been that team that hasn’t always been the favorite to win but a quality team that always ends up in at least the semi finals World Cup after World Cup. They lacked passion and urgency and looked sloppy throughout.

On a side note Germany did have a bunch of heading opportunities they missed. They had their chances but were so not clinical.

This is what it looks like as of now. If you are England or Belgium you do not want to win your next game.

FIFA needs to look into doing a draw format for the knockout stages. Have the 1s in a pot and the 2s in a pot. This will eliminate what’s going on between Belgium and England’s situation.

It's amazing that this is the only World Cup I can remember where they were the favorite. Given their past success, you'd figure they'd always be a popular pick.

They weren't a favorite in 2014 (won), 2010 (3rd), or even 2006 (3rd) when Germany hosted it. It's kind of long ago, but I don't remember people expecting huge things from them in 2002 (2nd) either.

This is their first finish outside of the top 3 since 1998.

Marcelo going out so early for Brazil is a big deal. However if it is serious and he has to miss more games it is a HUGE loss

There are going to be some great matchups in the Round of 16...Uruguay/Portugal, France/Argentina (both have badly underachieved but are big names), Brazil/Mexico, and I think it is still possible that Colombia could play either England or Belgium depending on tomorrow's outcomes.
