By far not Kirby's best outing. Gave up way too many hits, 12. I think, as hard as it may sound to believe, he is throwing too many strikes. He is pushing the 85% of total pitches thrown are strikes. Still only 1 walk in over 50 innings pitched this spring and summer other than the 4 pitch maybe they will swing unintentional intentional walks. The answer on Earned Runs should be 4. They scored 1 run which was a ROE and the other scored after a passed ball advanced him to scoring position and would not have scored without the passed ball. Too many bats on ball. 5/6 of his hits this summer have been infield hits that never left the infield. Getting weak contact but too weak. I'm also sure his 2 weeks in Belize he did not throw a bullpen but I would not have either. But the team got the win so it ended well. He was winning when pulled even giving up 6 runs. Only threw 81 pitches in 6 innings. It is a team sport at the end of the day and summer ball.
Side note. Had the guy behind the plate last night who was behind the plate at Western Carolina this year and he is not a UT fan and especially of our coaching staff who rode him pretty hard that night which I thought was well deserved. At one point in the WCU game, he was on the wrong shoulder for a couple of pitches and was called out on it along with a couple of calls in the field.
