The Official 2021 Summer Ball Thread

Re: conference expansion I think it would be awesome. It’s a bowl caliber game every week! We thought we had that already, this would be epic. I’d also love seeing those teams on the baseball and basketball schedules.

Obviously there’s money on the line, likely more than what we have now. There’s politics and other factors, I can’t speak to. It would be exciting every single week in every sport though!

Plus, while strengthening the SEC it would further weaken the (so-called) competitor conferences

There are two ways to look at that, right? The SEC is already the strongest conference in most sports.

Texas had a shot last time around, A&M took it and it’s not fair to them to let Texas rain on their parade.

The other thing, probably the motivating factor, is the 12 team playoff, they want to be in the mix and it is in their best interest, but it might not be in ours. JMO.

As someone holding a degree from Texas, I'm perfectly happy to rain on the Aggies' parade as much as possible, fair or not. It is true that moving to the SEC was their bold coup.

However, I still think the longhorns' best chance to make a 12-team playoff is to stay in the Big 12. They have to include some teams from non-SEC conferences and the competition in the SEC would be SAVAGE.

BTW, though I like the horns, having been a student there, I can confirm that the university and board are as self-absorbed and oblivious as you can imagine

I agree on that last paragraph, assuming they would be in the west, yeah, they are better off staying where they are. Let’s just see it for what it is, the best players in the state of Texas don’t automatically go to The Other UT anymore.

I am good with it staying that way, but I do understand your dilemma.

Miller for the night: strike out, ground out, HBP, walk, single. W for the Owls.

I think Zander is probably done for the summer, he hasn’t pitched since July 9th according to the stats.

Is anyone else worried about Beck's performance this summer?

Beck has a typical power hitter profile: lots of homers, doubles, and RBI, but also few walks and many strikeouts. Could be he's been sent to summer ball to work on some things and it's taking some time to develop. That is also a league that has a reputation as the best summer baseball competition.

Lol, the cape is notoriously the toughest summer circuit in the nation (and world). There are usually less than 10 players who hit over .300. Competition is brutal, and there is no emotion factor that comes with college teams.

That being said, anyone hitting under the mendoza line is suspect. Beck is right in the middle. Going from metal to wood is also an adjustment.

No Vols in the Forest City Owls lineup tonight, dunno if Kirby will be pitching in relief though…
