The Official 2025 March Madness Discussion Thread

Somewhat shocking thing I just saw: apparently if Michigan State wins, this’ll be the first ever March Madness with only power conference teams making the sweet 16.

Honestly surprised it’s never happened before. Though it should’ve already been prevented, Maryland traveled so badly on that last basket that even their fans are admitting it.

Michigan State looks terrible
They'll still win. I told my Dad ( who doesn't watch a lot of basketball) that when they were down 10, and he wanted to know if I willing to bet on it. I asked him if he knew who coach Izzo was, and he said no.
I told him wouldn't be fair of me to bet him then.
I didn't want to take advantage of him.

It’s 6 right now with an OM win making 7. Still pretty good.
Yeah, I had the Alabama game on a delay. I didn't know Alabama had already won when the announcers in the Ole Miss game said would be 7 if they won.
Still tho, not too shabby for 7 teams to make it to the sweet 16. I think they said that was a record now that Ole Miss is about to win.

Old record was 6 by the ACC.
I'd say that definitely settles the question of "is the SEC overrated this year".

This kills me about the NBA. But please keep this out of college 😤
Refs don’t like to make a call like that on the last play, but the shot would have been tougher had he not traveled. He would have had to use his left to dribble and switch to right hand. Plus he may not have got it off in time. CSU should have won this game. Coaches need a challenge in college game and a travel should be reviewable

Ole Miss is destroying Iowa St.
Yep they are. If we can get by Kensucky we won't have to see another SEC team until the Championship game most likely. I don't see Alabama making it to the final 4.
If BYU doesn't get them I'd say Duke will.
I guess you never know tho. From here on out almost anything can happen.
Could end up with Arkansas playing BYU for a Natty. lol

Lady Vols also make Sweet Sixteen.

So SEC puts 7 teams in Sweet Sixteen…maybe a good conference after all?

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of travels in the NBA, but the rule is different than in college. In NBA you get a "gather" step (made while stopping the dribble and gathering the ball), then 2 more steps before it's a travel. That means 3 steps from the last dribble if the first step is made while gathering the ball.

For example, the classic James Harden step back 3 that all the shooters do now is not a NBA travel because the first step is made while the player "gathers the ball in". It would be a travel in college.
