SERIES HISTORY

Tennessee leads, 2-1
The Vols have won two of their prior three meeting against the Hawkeyes, including a 45-28 victory over in the 2015 TaxSlayer Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida. UT also took down Iowa, 23-22, in the 1987 Kickoff Classic in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with Keith Jackson calling the game on ABC. The Hawkeyes lone victory in the series came back in the 1982 Peach Bowl by a score of 28-22.

Only key stat missing is Tennessee's overall record against the Big 10.

Bray was the penalty on UNC and they got to kick and win. Rule was changed after that game. We got hosed. I was there
Yep. we really won that game because they had a penalty on a missed FG but the penalty let them kick over even though the penalty was on them, and they had no timeouts. So, the next year they enacted the 10 second runoff rule which would have ended the game we would have won the game.
The LSU game they didn't give us time to substitute since LSU O substituted so the next year when an Offense subs the referee stands over the ball until the D has time to sub.
So Vols took 2 losses to get 2 new rules in college football.
*****These Ls should have an asterisk beside them we really won both games. No wonder BVS is so rampant.

I think we played Maryland but they may have been in ACC then.
There are a few that are now in the B10 but were in some other conference or independent when we played them. I was at the Rutgers game in 02 when they jumped out ahead of us like 14-0 if I recall correctly. Then the beating commenced.

I mean, the dude's making millions. You don't get leeway with that kind of paycheck. People making big money don't get patience. They get expectations.
I can’t wait to see how the team looks with him in command. Now it’s his team heading into next years training camp. Should be a fun game with new guys getting a chance to prove themselves

Gonna be a tough game today and please Vol fans don’t be too critical of Nico today if he makes some mistakes
One thing I have not seen discussed too much is Iowa's 16 Interceptions, tied for 8th in the nation (+4 turnover margin). For reference, we had 10 Ints, and 5 recovered fumbles this season (+3 turnover margin).
They have an effective combination of QB pressures and decent coverage.
Iowa can easily win this game by creating turnovers. They have scored 20+% of their points off turnovers. Impressive.

Nico will win if he doesn't turn over the football.
If our OLine can keep Nico protected I like our chances.

Iowa 2023 cumulative football stats

Iowa allowed 10 passing TDs and 4 rushing TDs all season, 15TDs for the entire season.
