Don't forget the Purdue loss where the officials elected to spot the ball where he judged the ball to be dead instead of accepting the results of the replay that showed he was in the endzone WHEN THE PLAY WAS SIGNALED DEAD. That is what the rulebook says on reviews of reviews of spotting the ball when first downs and touchdowns are involved. They spot the ball where it was when the first body part hits, not where the official originally JUDGED it, or where the ball was when the player or ball REALLY go out of bounds, not where originally JUDGED by the official, and since Vulcan mind meld is not available, replay is supposed to spot the ball where it was when signaled dead, the only reviewable option and what the rulebook prescribes. They passed on using the rulebook and played the you can't review a judgement call. BULL. On all reviewable spots they are all initially JUDGEMENTS and all reviewable and all correctable. Replay just covered up for an official that did not spot the ball where it was when blew the whistle or waived dead by a completed signal. Running in from the sideline is not a reviewable act or compliant with the rulebook.Yep. we really won that game because they had a penalty on a missed FG but the penalty let them kick over even though the penalty was on them, and they had no timeouts. So, the next year they enacted the 10 second runoff rule which would have ended the game we would have won the game.
The LSU game they didn't give us time to substitute since LSU O substituted so the next year when an Offense subs the referee stands over the ball until the D has time to sub.
So Vols took 2 losses to get 2 new rules in college football.
*****These Ls should have an asterisk beside them we really won both games. No wonder BVS is so rampant.
A true multi generational talent that probably will never be duplicated! Man I miss John. Listening to John on my radio as a kid call Tennessee games was a BIG part of me becoming a Vol fan.
Yes they have a really good defenseOne thing I have not seen discussed too much is Iowa's 16 Interceptions, tied for 8th in the nation (+4 turnover margin). For reference, we had 10 Ints, and 5 recovered fumbles this season (+3 turnover margin).
They have an effective combination of QB pressures and decent coverage.
Iowa can easily win this game by creating turnovers. They have scored 20+% of their points off turnovers. Impressive.
Nico will win if he doesn't turn over the football.
If our OLine can keep Nico protected I like our chances.
Iowa 2023 cumulative football stats
Iowa allowed 10 passing TDs and 4 rushing TDs all season, 15TDs for the entire season.
I went all in on Seldon last recruiting season and would love for him to cover my recruiting expertise butt with a few big or even solid plays today. Also hope all the reps Nico had with our two FR WR in 2's practices pays off with some synergy from those hours.I'm hyped to watch Nico, the younger RBs and our revamped Secondary in this game.
Win or lose, at least the young players will get some experience against a good opponent. They will also have some good game film to study. We couldn’t have a better opponent than Iowa for our defense. Apparently they are so bad that, even if we make some mistakes, they may not be good enough to take advantage of it. Should be an interesting and maybe ugly game.I went all in on Seldon last recruiting season and would love for him to cover my recruiting expertise butt with a few big or even solid plays today. Just fear our increased inexperience due to all the injuries and opt outs being way more than our opponents losses could show up with these offensive guys and don't have a clue how our young secondary replacements will compare to the guys lost in our mass exodus in those rooms. A couple of busts on handing off responsibilities on the back end could be devastating.
