The Official #22 Tennessee @ #18 Kentucky Game Thread, 1:00 PM ET, ESPN

Barnes can be blamed for taking Burns, they shouldve been able to tell DJ was too immature to handle the jump. Also, im not even saying get higher caliber players but get ok talent you can sit and develop. And again COVID is a lame excuse every team in the country had to deal with it, we had 2 whole Freshman, that still leaves at least 10 players that were on the roster before. Lets not sit here and pre tend he brought in 5 one and dones.
They couldn’t sit and develop tho because of covid, think about that covid team. They were young. Only two that weren’t Pons and Fulky, and covid ruined Fulky. Not like it was team been together for 3 years. That team desperately needed the summer to play together, it just didn’t mesh.

Vescovi, James, Uros, ORN, Fulk, Pons, VB. All guys with multi year experience. Then 2 top NBA prospects last years teams wasnt young.

The year after Grant and company left is on Barnes for lazy recruiting. He doesn't have to stack 5 stars every year, but he should've gotten talent that could play and had them waiting in the wings. Instead he brought in scraps. Whining about COVID last year is lazy every team in the country had to deal with it. This year he's too stubborn to play all his freshman. Go ahead and get the excuses ready for next year. This is what he is and what he does. Go look at his coaching career he peaks early and then his teams never get back to that level.

If Tennessee does not make a deep post season run this year, I think 2023 could be a pivotal season for Barnes.

Rick Barnes arrived at UT in 2015. from 98 to 15 is 17 years. He's had 5 years of opportunity here for the NCAA tourney, and he's been there 3 of those five (and that after inheriting a mess). that's 60% of the time, and the previous 17 years was 11 times, or 65%. 3 SS's in 17 years is about one in every 6. Barnes is on that same pace (edited). So, please tell us what this tells us.
Sorry, you’re math is wrong. We had been to 4 regional semi finals from 1998- 2015 or 23.5% of the time. Barnes has made 1 of 6 sweet 16’s or 16.6%. Barnes inherited a mess? The 5 seasons prior to Barnes we won 57.6% of our games , went to 2 NCAAT and one Sweet 16.

4 of the 7 you just named only was coming into their second year. Losing that summer hurt there development a year. Aniskoe wasn’t it, Bailey streaky, and Fulk wasn’t fulk the year before. He showed signs end of the year, and caught a cheap shot. Like I said, losing that summer killed that team.

Everyone had to deal with it. Its just an excuse

The Covid excuse is my favorite. Not just picking on this post but I read it all the time on here. Apparently we are the only school that has dealt with it.

It created an advantage for veteran teams. TN’s two players logging the most minutes were freshmen and the team had to skip the summer workouts when freshmen get familiar with their teammates. Still made it to the NCAAT though.

Intellectually dishonest if you suggest Barnes didn’t inherit a dumpster fire. Except for Robert Hubbs, no one was left from the SS team, and the roster was totally made over by Tyndall. Then, half of that team left, too.

These are just dumb takes, and it’s why you catch so much heat. You make up stuff and try too hard.

It is also weird that you'd care so much of my opinion.
I don’t care about your opinion. I think it’s odd that any fan would pronounce their own team as overrated when, if having any real perspective, that is most certainly not the case. It’s like a weird self flagellation.

You think it's odd to point out a fact? Ok bud.

One of Barnes years the tourney wasn't played because of covid. So, he's only had five chances to reach the SS, and he has done it once, or 20%. Whatever the numbers, your original post was silly. Barnes record has been no worse than his predecessors, despite you trying your best to make it look like it is.

By the fact that his “ predecessors” were paid less than 1/2 of what Barnes makes , you just helped make my point. We are getting ripped off.

Inheriting a mess, as you like to say is a lot different from hunky dory, which is not what I said. Tyndall went .500 the year before Barnes took over

Nobody left? Really? Robert Hubbs ( 5*) , Kevin Punter, Armani Moore, and two future NBA players that were freshmen ( Admiral and Alexander). Not exactly chopped liver . Barnes did manage to go 15-19, I guess that was considered a “ great” coaching job

I’ve seen you reach before to make a point, but this one might take the cake. Using Kyle Alexander here is classic. He hadn’t touched a basketball until his Junior year in high school and weighed 150 pounds soaking yet and you expect Barnes to throw him to the wolves his freshman year? 😂😂😂. And I’ll not even bring up the difference between Pre Barnes and Post Barnes Kevin Punter and Armani Moore.

Look, bottom line is Barnes record since Admiral and Grant left is 46-28 overall and 21-19 in the SEC. I’m glad to sit back and see how this season plays out but when you bring back 60% of your scoring and add a top 4 recruiting class that includes the #1 pg in the country, I would expect better than what I have witnessed so far this season. If this is a team that barely makes it to the dance and gets ousted the first weekend, much less the first game of the tourney, I think it is definitely time for some “ retirement “ discussions to be had

You are ridiculous. So sad you try this hard. You just don’t tell the truth. Done with any discussion because you can’t have a discussion with someone who can’t be honest with facts.
