Agreed. And, past is prologue. Also, there is definite and documented counter rally against him among the college coaching community. He broke an unwritten rule, right or wrong, he broke it and is actually lucky (should be grateful) to not have been black balled by D-1 altogether.

Weren't going to be in it last year notwithstanding Covid - 3 of 6 NCAAT???? wow I'm amazed by his greatness... lol......

Barnes is overrated and incredibly over paid. Making top 3 money - but not even top 20 results consistently. If you are ok with that then good for you but I'm not. 5 PLUS MILLION DOLLARS - I expect more and Tennessee fans deserve more - Barnes isn't worth 5 million!

When did this university last win a national title in any sport; men or women? Football 1998?

We have to be the worst program in the SEC by FAR. Remember Vandy has a real good baseball program.

This team ultimately just never got enough court time together to really build that consistency we had with Grant/Admiral here. Maybe they'll catch fire in the tournament and make a run. We got a week before the Florida game though, need that W going into the SECT.

Seems we had good chemistry early in the season, beating both Arkansas and Missouri on the road in 4 days, What happened since then ?

The agressive team gets to the line. They don't give free throws to teams that just go down and throw the ball around at the top of the key and then shoot a contested jump shot every time.

The Lady Vols went back to back with Candace Parker. I believe 2008 and 2009.

Ok so who are you going to get to come here that’s better? I agree he’s a little overpaid but we have been in the top 20 more than we’ve been out of it the last 4 years since you mentioned that. His first 2 years we weren’t good but we played hard and played smart. You know he walked into a mess too right? You ignore that it seems. Coach K could’ve walked in here and he wasn’t going to the tournament the first year and likely not the second either. Is Barnes a top 3 coach, no. Should we have let him walk and brought in a new coach? No.

Grant and Admiral didn’t have it as freshmen either. People are comparing Jrs and Srs to freshmen for some reason. I’m not saying you, but this team just isn’t as good as a team that had 2 first round picks, a second round pick, and another guy that went to the league and those guys went due just to production just as much as potential, at least Grant and Admiral. Springer and Keon are more in potential than production at this point.

I didn’t see the game since I was & work. Maybe they were shooting fouls? Or they were one and ones and converted while we missed the front end?

From what it sounded like, our D was very slow and got beat badly around the rim and rebounds.

But it didn’t cost us the game. Kessling, Bert (forgot last name), Barnes and Keon said they lacked effort on both ends. Plus they could not get stops which forced the half court game, which we don’t have. Keon admitted that as such stating they must play transition game vs half court.

Barnes may be a hall of fame coach but it will be because of his career before Tennessee. He's done nothing here that is remotely hall of fame worthy.

It’s not because of having a great season or winning a NC. It’s because of his consistent winning. We’ve been in the tournament 3 of the last 4 years barring something weird this year. How quickly people forget what he walked into here.

Mississippi State has never won a national championship in any sport.

every team does this to us now... and funny enough we NEVER do it ... all of our players seem scared to drive to the rim and draw a foul... almost like Barnes is coaching them not too... crazy..

I never said Barnes should be fired - what I did say was that he wasn’t earning his 5+ million dollar contract.

And the whole who you going to hire retort is old and tired much like Barnes. There are several good coaches who would come to Tennessee for the kind of money the Admim is throwing around.

Ok. Your first point is fair. My apologies for putting words in your mouth but you do then go on to entertain the thought of an order coach so I don’t think it’s an unreasonable jump to think you’re heading down the path of wanting to replace Barnes. But, seriously, who would you go get? Very few people are sure things and they’re coaching at big time schools already. I think the expectations were a little high coming into the year and the team has also underperformed so those 2 things together make it seem like a terrible year when we will still be in the tournament. However, it could be worse. Look at Cal and KY this year. Yes they beat us but they have zero chance at the tournament unless they win the SEC tourney.

To be fair Bone, Admiral & Turner all did it without issue.

When Pons/Fulky/Bowden became our “alphas” things changed. Their good players, but never were able to step into a leadership role as a major scorer.

The Freshmen we got now can be, but I feel like covid delayed their progress to that. And as it’s happening now it seems Fulky & Santi haven’t adjusted to their roles changing.

Surprising how bad we are. Auburn looks to be back to their losing ways. Down 7 early in 2nd half at Alabama.

Kentucky lost next game after thumping Vols too.

To an extent, but its not near the extreme you re making it out to be.

UT has not only had worse but a lot worse and it wasnt just 1 team.
