The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Is it marked with the MPI/HPT etch?

That is unusual from Colt.

It is. The guy who noticed it is a co-worker who builds AR's, and he's as sharp as I've seen when it comes to this platform. I took the upper in to let him look at it and talk about mounting the sights; moving the optic and light, etc. He pulled out the BCG, looked it over, and said it looked like a nitride coating. Said he "thought" that Colt was using this BCG in the 6933 EPR, maybe the 6943, along with the free-float Centurion hand guard, which obviously I have.

I'll know for sure after I shoot it in and then clean it. That's where a nitride coating will reveal itself. I'll let you know after this weekend.

The problem I have now, and maybe it's a good problem to have, is that I have two spare standard 6933 uppers. They both have Magpul hand guards and rear BUS. The new "backup" upper has the Aimpoint PRO, TLR-1 HL, and Raptor CH. The other one is slick. I see no reason, at this point, to put an optic or light on it. It's just a backup for my backup.

My two 6721's remain unchanged. In addition to the changes you already know about (trigger, hand guards, grips, CH, etc), one is set up with the Vortex 3X Spitfire, and the other still mounts the Nikon P223, 3-9X. I'm happy with both at this point. Those are my longer range options, should a need ever exist. Fact is, it's much more likely that one day Upper Management will have to find someone she can trust to figure out what it's all worth, and then make her a decent offer. When you factor in the ammo I have on hand, it should make for a nice down payment on a condo in the mountains...lol.

You keep safe out there, Okie. Rumor has it there's some crazy chick out that way taking advantage of old men with old school ways. Next thing you know, you'd be posting goofy memes 'round these parts.

;)

Just picked this one up. Been wanting one for a while; however if was a bit reluctant to pay its price for Canik. So I got it used, and so far I’m extremely impressed.

I’ve had the SC Elite and the SFX (both tp9’s) and they were both very good pistols…….especially for the money.

This one, the Elite Combat has the best striker fired trigger I've ever had / used / even felt……..bar none and PERIOD. The trigger on this is just amazing, and the reset is fast and short……..really short……it is an extremely fast shooter.

If someone out there is looking for a custom striker fired, or something they can have customized……..I’d say check out the Canik tp9 Elite Combat……you won’t be disappointed……it’s just about everything you would do do a gun except maybe a stipple job (and it will be WAY cheaper than something custom).

The only complaint is you lose the rear sight when mounting a red dot. However this has some really good sights if you choose not to add an optic (serrated blackout rear and a small fiber optic front…….small for more precise shooting but not so small you can’t pick it up quick).

With the loss of the rear sight you can always use and optic with a built in rear sight or sight channel and add a tall front sight. For my purposes it’s not needed (Canik has a tall fiber optic front sight in their online store).

New this will come with a magwell, fluted threaded barrel, optics ready, extended “combat” controls, 1 15 round magazine and another with a +3 extension, 4 optic plates (usually), thread protector/suppressor tool, cleaning tools and even a small or large magazine release (medium usually installed), extra back strap and other screws and such in a decent hard plastic case. Taylor Freelance has custom aluminum back straps with nice checker work for fairly cheap if you want more grip customization.

Salient Arms does the custom work for Canik in this one…..the barrel, the sights, the magwell, trigger work ect…….and it shows.

Also the slide has a black nitrite finish with a tan carakote top finish.

It’s a good one.

Which is why I got rid of mine

Yea if it’s for someone’s home defense or carry or something…….it’s big.

For me it’s only for shooting……..no big deal.

The new METE sft or sfx have pistols keep the rear sight with their optics…….nice handguns.

It was/is a great shooting gun though. If they fixed the sight thing I’d be a player again

Question for anyone who can provide suggestions. What’s an appropriate gun for hiking in “off the grid” bear country. Long rifles not an option. The more round capacity the better.

Marlin in .450 Marlin
Ruger .450 bushmaster
Maybe a .357 handgun
any large bore Revolvers .45 colt, .454 Casull, .44 Magnum

I know you said no long barrels, but if you are feeling pricey go for a Ruger Alaskan in .357 Ruger ;)

Thanks for the info. I’ll look them up. Does any on your list have significantly less recoil than the others? I hunted for many years but have almost zero experience in shooting handguns.

Can I ask why no rifles?
I’m hiking AT and others trails for maintenance and may be solo sometimes. Just like to be prepared if something unusual happens , like a bear encounter or running into someone with bad intentions. Not sure of the regulations carrying a long rifle outside of hunting seasons.

I would say without taking grain it would be from least to most .375, .45 colt, .44 mag, and .454.

I have only shot a .454 twice so I can't give you a lot of advice on it.
