The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

He had us run on a treadmill for 3 minutes, run to the door of a shooting house and pick up an at then try to hit a dummy with 5 shots. It was amazing how many good shots missed. He said that simulates panic situations. We did the same drill with a 12gs loaded with OO buck. Errbody destroyed the dummy.
That helped me decide what the best home defense weapon was. Lol

There are certain situations where some people can make arguments for pistols but all else being equal basically everybody shoots better with a long gun. (be that shotgun or rifle)

The red women put 5 in the ballistics dummy. She was covered in fake blood and guts. I wish I had a picture. CS called her “RedBo” for the rest of the weekend.

Edit. Was supposed to quote @C1500, but I like you too so….

I got this in the other day CZ P01 tactical. While it’s a fine handgun I got it mostly for a project; however it’s in much nicer condition than I had anticipated…..so now I’m thinking over what I’m going to do.

I did put some Cool Hand grips on it but for now that’s all. I’ve used Lok, VZ and many other however for the $ you really can’t beat the Cool Hand……they cost me $29 (vs about $75 for the VZ). You can grab some Cool Hand’s from $19-$36. Their very similar to Lok, probably not is nice VZ…….mainly in the design and details…..but I like them.

I’m probably going to refinish this….not sure what all else.

Was thinking about a two tone light dessert tan and a bazooka green, then having a polished barrel and maybe an optics cut (that’s what I was thinking before I got it….the finish is much better than I thought).

I might just refinish the small parts and let it be, We’ll see.

When you say "refinish," would you paint it yourself? I ask this because I was considering building an inexpensive AR kit from Palmetto and trying a paint job, after watching a couple of videos. The best one I saw used Rust-Oleum camo spray.

if I’m only doing a refinish or a small parts refinish I’ll do it myself.

I prefer Brownells Aluma Hyde spray…….then bake it on a medium heat for several hours.

if I figure I want some slide cutting or maybe some front/back strap checkering or whatever I’ll just let the person (doing that) do it all.

A lot of times it will depend on what I’m after. If I’m looking for like a show piece…..I’d probably send it off. If I want it to look much better and I have a “purpose” for it I’ll just do it myself.

the Brownells stuff is easy to work with……I’ve seen and heard of many folks using Rust-Ease with good results.

also if your going to do some camo I would suggest working your pattern out on maybe some cardboard or something a couple times. Taking your time, spraying lightly (but with coverage) and letting coats dry will be key.

Take your time and I’m sure it will work out pretty good. Good luck.

I saw a cool trick where a guy did some background color blocks/striping, then sprayed a texture pattern with the opposite color using mesh bags, . . . Almost a scaled appearance. Much cooler than your typical redneck hunting camo.

Simple question for the experts:

I just ordered my first AR pistol build with a complete upper and stripped lower.

What exactly will I need to complete the build? Is a vice necessary? Armorer's wrench? Detailed suggestions (price conscious) welcomed.

TIA

Welcome to the club my friend. I hope you realize this will become an incredibly enjoyable and expensive endeavor. 😊

You can do it without a vice but assembling a lower is tricky so I would suggest a standard vice and an adapter that fits in the mag well ($30). An ultimate gun vice is $120 but if you have a couple guns it’s a good deal. You will need a lower parts kit. A complete kit is the least expensive ($40-$60) and you’ll get a Mil spec trigger. Not the best but for your first build good enough. If you already know an upgraded trigger you want then buy a lower parts kit without a “fire control group” and buy the trigger separately. A stripped lower will need a buffer tube, buffer, spring, and a pistol brace. I used an SB4 brace, and the buffer size will depend on your caliber. Lots of info out there on what buffer to buy. Pew Pew Tactical has some great articles on AR parts and what's important.

No wrench needed if your upper is complete. Make sure you have a bolt carrier group and a charging handle. Some “complete” uppers have them and some don’t. You will also want either a red dot sight or iron sights. Lots of choices there. I used Primary Arms for most of my parts, but there are dozens of AR part sites out there.

The best advice I can give you to save $ is to shoot something before you buy it. Not always possible but it will save you from a lot of expensive learning experiences. 😊 Tell us about your pistol (556, 300 BLK) and make sure to post pics when you’re finished. Built mine last Christmas and had a ball. At least yours will be cheaper than mine was. 😁

I didn’t know you two knew each other.

Blue font? We've known each other for a few years now, but we've been seeing each other for five months or so.

She's just getting into the shooting game. A woman after my heart of course... not that she doesn't have it already.

We're going rifle shooting next lol

I'm planning to move my Sig Romeo to the new pistol and would like something with a little more range on my full-size 5.56, maybe to be able to take it to 100-250 yards. Suggestions that won't break the bank and still allow rapid target acquisition at closer ranges?
