After several months of horse trading, I've finally settled my handgun inventory. Still have the Glock 30S, which is my every day IWB companion. But being a non-repentant 1911 fan, I've managed to land a Springfield .45 Range Officer compact; a Springfield .45 Loaded (PX9109L); and a Springfield .45 Range Officer. All three have been discontinued, and for the life of me I cannot figure out why. I have shot a lot of 1911 .45's over the years, and I'll stack any one of those Springfields against anything Colt, Kimber, or anyone south of Dan Wesson or Wilson Combat is turning out. Every one of those .45's is accurate beyond my skill level, reliable, and absolutely fun to shoot.
Nothing against any of the well-established 1911 builders. It's a timeless design, and if you stick to the design, you'll turn out a good gun. And to each their own, but having shot most of the more common brands, there's just something about the crossed cannons that stands out. 2nd place goes to Rock Island. If their slide to frame fit was just a tad better, they'd be in the same conversation.
Lord, just wait 'till my can (SOCOM 556-RC2) gets out of jail in the next few months. Gonna mount my thermal sight to the SBR; add the can; and then go "Whisper Kill" some Hot Hands targets at sunset. Well, more like a soft pop than a whisper, but there's only so much you can do with a 2300 fps round (TAP 75 SBR). Anyhoo, it's a 9.8 on the Internet Commando Meter.
How cool am I? Chuck Norris reads my posts.
p.s. - I retired in March, so now I question everything. Got a warrant? No? Then we're done here, and I don't answer questions.
Go Vols.
