The Official #3 Tennessee @ Memphis Game Thread, 12:00 PM ET, ESPN2

Sorry got here late but, did watch a hell of a game by our Vols. Yes, the referees tried desperately to throw the game to Memphis. The hands, grabbing, fouls when we were on offense, were over the top. And we overcame and we won. Great game Vols. Awesome for recruiting!

Lulz. We doubled them up on FTA. They were called for 13 more fouls. There were a few questionable charges, but the refs didn’t try to throw them the game.

My takeaway from this game is that the officials were of course for Memphis and calling it very close. To that always allows the underdog team an ability to sneak in and pull an upset. But you'll have this in basketball everywhere. Plus the very sloppy play did not help....just glad to get to 8-1

Just got to the car and I had a great time. I had a mix of Vol and Tiger fans and no one liked the refs it was absolutely horrible on both sides. Glad we pulled the W out.

Memphis plays a very ugly-style game. Lots of grabbing, driving and flopping. Results in a very foul prone game. Refs let a lot of walking occur also

post in the stickied thread. You on an ipad by chance?
lol... yeah on an iPad. When I went to “need help” tried to click on ‘Volssportsfans”Post about mobile pop ups I got redirected to a million dollar prize that I had won 😂

When officials call a game that way it really ruins the pacing. I hoped they would ease up on the whistles in the 2nd half but it didn’t happen.

Basilio (tonybasilio.com) has a guy on that analyzes the refs. It's almost over, but it should be posted as a podcast later.

Glad the refs called it tight... game would have ended in a brawl if not...

Wish we would end this series again, nothing good comes out of it... bad blood, even if for no reason.

Great things come out of playing this game. It was never going to end in a brawl. Very dramatic.

thanks! makes me happy about the future...take away Parks, Thornton, Brewton, plus we get back K Azab's scholly (RIP, cancer sux)...add Wiseman, Jeffries, Dandridge, and Lance Thomas...yep, It'll be fun.

that's why we have the KA patch on our unis.

Davenport was a Man, today. Although Harris didn't have his best game today, I really like his game. UT could have really used Harris this year, as the back-up PG. Future looks bright for Memphis, that class coming in next year is loaded. Wiseman will be a beast, although a year or 2 in a college weight room would do him so good, but will probably be one and done

i kept wondering if there was a 24 second shot clock in this game and a whistle blown every other shot - a junior NBA game. Memphis appeared to want to shoot the ball within 10 seconds and UT allowed themselves to get caught up in that pace and started shooting too quickly. Goes to show however that the Vols can win at any pace although I don't think they're at their best playing so fast.

On the late technicals

Lomax drove the ball and scored a lay-up and called a timeout, and I heard him say something,” Bone said. “I retaliated. I shouldn’t have. We were winning the game, and we’re supposed to walk out of here with class, but I kind of allowed that to get to me. I know a couple of those guys. I played AAU with ‘em back in the day, and I kind of lost my focus.
“But then I got back level-headed, and we walked out of here the way we were supposed to.”

Penny Hardaway

Hardaway — who has coached Lomax at the middle school, high school and college levels — said he’s never seen Lomax “talk trash,” and that his freshman guard simply “protected himself” by responding.
“Alex is a kid that’s not gonna talk trash, so obviously Jordan Bone said something to him disrespectfully,” said Hardaway, a former Memphis and NBA star. “He protected himself by, you know, saying something back. Then Jeremiah jumped in and said something to Jordan Bone, and the referee teched Jeremiah.”

“I said [to the official] that the entire Tennessee team ran over to fight,” Hardaway said. “You know, their entire team emptied the bench to run over. They weren’t coming over because it was a timeout. You could visibly see guys with their fists balled, talking trash to our guys or whatever. It was almost like a standoff, and I was asking the referee why they were able to come across the line into our area and not get a technical. We got one for Jeremiah? OK. That’s fine. But why don’t they get a technical for leaving their bench to come over?
