The Official #4 Tennessee @ #15 South Carolina Weekend Thread (Game 1 Thursday @ 7PM) (Game 2 Friday @ 7PM) (Game 3 Saturday @ Noon)

Chill. He did leave Tidwell in too long, but it was a tough decision. Most of the time you get 7-innings of 1-run ball it's time to turn it over to the set-up man and then your closer. Statistics show that the 4th time through the order is rarely kind to the pitcher....

We won. That's all that matters. And Hunley shut it down.

Just saying when you starter goes into the 8th having thrown 80-some pitches, you don’t “turn it over to the setup man.” He earned being able to possibly throw a cg and that’s part of baseball. All of that aside from the fact he was dominant today and shut down the cocks aside from a single pitch going into the 8th.

I think after the first hit he should've pulled him. Tony is in between a rock and a hard place as no way he can have total confidence in our ability to close out games. I know he was hoping to get one more inning out of Tidwell. With a 5 to 1 lead and third time through the order I pull him he doesn't start the eighth inning. Should have enough confidence in Hundley to close with a four run lead.

We'll agree to disagree. That's why you have a set-up man and closer. The deeper your starter goes the more likely he is to get tagged by the lineup. Tidwell started the 8th facing the 8th and 9th batters, so he was about to face the order for a 4th time. That's tough for ANY pitcher to do no matter how good you are.

Ok. 2 pitches two smoked balls to leadoff the inning says they’re catching up to him. Why do you risk letting the nations leading HR hitter get a crack at squaring up his timing? You can name on less than one hand how many pitchers in this league can regularly make it through an SEC lineup 3x and have earned the right to try. This game had on the line the difference between a guaranteed bye in Hoover and a very possible single elimination day 1 game as well as a locked in top 8 seed and 5 home wins away from Omaha vs. going on the road to face a top 5 team to get to Omaha. Why take the risk? That’s the only question to ask.

Blade deserved to start the 7th and I’m ok with facing the first two. Leaving him in to face Clark was the “mistake” or mistimed move.

You want to debate the last hitter he faced, sure. I’m talking to the folks that said he shouldn’t have started the 8th.

At that point he had thrown around 80 pitches, was up 5-1 and had given up 5 hits the whole day. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

took a shot at the SEC tourney matchups assuming kensucky does what kensucky does and blows it.

The only series lost were against two of the best in the nation. And we had opportunities to win both of those.

I am pumped.
I believe Vandy was ranked #1 at the time. Lost both series to #1.

I think you could easily argue that Vandy was a better team when we matched up than they are today.
