The Official #4 Tennessee vs #1 Arkansas Weekend Game Thread (Game 1 Friday @ 6:30 PM) (Game 2 Saturday @ 12 PM) (Game 3 Sunday @ 1 PM)

MLB is projection and tools. Just like SEC schools could care less if a senior in HS throws no hitters every other appearance if the kid is 80 mph. It’s not results based, it’s projection.
Agree. MLB looks at size, projection and likelihood of longevity (repeatable mechanics, etc). I think Hunley increased his stock tonight and frankly has all year. Will be interesting to see where he lands. I believe he could actually come back next year due to having his covid year left.

What's up with Walsh...hurt..doghouse? Last I heard he was talking about giving up on the new pitch they were teaching him and felt much better on the mound

Was he out at first on the pick off or not? Video board wasn’t clear enough. What a game. Stadium was electric.

No doubt CTV saw something which was exactly what I said earlier. A raw 92 mph HS arm that couldn’t pitch but really projected well. You won’t see CTV letting his pitchers ruin their arms by throwing 80% junk unless it’s obvious they are done after college anyway. That’s the difference with CTV and Van Horn. Van Horn let this kid throw junk 80% of the time since he has been at Arkansas and he will be done in 5-6 years. He will be a low round pick when they do an MRI on his arm which they will do before any team will sign him.

Lol, Kopps was awful before this season and his addition of the cutter along with a 2-seam fastball instead of the 4-seam has been what has, if anything, made him money this year. His cutter has a ridiculous miss rate because it looks exactly like the fastball coming out of his hand.

He already had TJ surgery 2-3 years ago. He won’t go very high partly due to his age as well since he’s already 24 but he wasn’t even remotely on any draft radar before this year. Also Opitz calls the pitches, not the coaching staff.

I thought 2 calls changed a lot, this being one of them.

No he was safe. But the lead off double in the 8th was an out but we didn’t ask for replay. That ended up being the winning run. Spence held the glove on him and his foot wasn’t in the back when he removed his hand.

I'm just now catching up with the rest of the scores from around the SEC last night.

Mizzou actually came out on top of MS State? Wow. That's a tremendous win for them.
Vandy lost to Ole Miss? Thank you, Rebels! We're still ahead in the SEC East standings.
South Carolina blasted Kentucky. Are they over their hitting slump? Something worth monitoring today and tomorrow.

I wouldn’t think there is anything going on. He’s actually had a couple of good outings lately. All about matchups and who has the hot hand at the right time I guess

Yeah I thought he did well in last couple outings I just don't remember seeing him pitch in last 2 weeks midweek or SEC...Ill go back and look at boxscores...okay my bad he has pitched on last 2 Sundays

You’re telling me that Dallas doesn’t give up a big dinger every outing?
14 on the year and 11 in SEC play. Both have to lead the league or be damn close I would think. He can usually withstand the HR’s due to his low nature of walking guys and keeping them as solo shots. Last night was probably his worst outing of the year.

What’s his record?

He’s the most underrated Friday night arm in all of baseball.
Incorrect. A pitchers record is sometimes reflective of the offensive production he receives during his outings.

What’s does your comment here have anything to do with him giving up a big dinger each game? That was my original response..

Leiter back today...also seeing some talk that Rocker, who took the L last night, might be a reliever in MLB

If anyone that watched the whole game is not excited about the next two games , I will just shake my head. This team had several chances to win last night, not many teams will be able to say that against Arkansas. I personally think we win the next two because of how the at bats went the whole game. No we didn’t cash in at times. But we battled and to the last pitch. I wish the ump would have gave Beck his BB... that might have changed the outcome!!! We were a pitch or two away from winning last night ! Go Vols. !!

You said he throws batting practice every game and that’s bs.

You can wear your gold metal with pride knowing there was no close second place.

You’re under this illusion that you have to throw 95+ to be effective in professional baseball. I watched Luke Hocheaver throw 96+ for 8 innings every Friday, go #1 overall and he’s 20 games below .500 in his career. Meanwhile someone like Adam Wainwright throws 92 and is 60 games above .500 because he can get guys out other ways. Pitchers aren’t judged on how fast you throw, it’s about getting guys out. If it was on speed alone Heflin or KC would never see the mound.
I’m sure someone else mentioned this but Greg Maddux topped out in the low 90s and I’d say he had a pretty darn good career. Man it was so awesome when the Braves got him. Too bad they never got enough hitting or they would’ve easily won 2-3 more WS.
