Well the Vols find themselves in good shape after the win over Florida. However bad losses to Vandy (away) and KY at home have left us with no more margin for error. This game is an absolute MUST win.

Why is this game a MUST win?

We're 7th in the SEC at 5-4

Auburn is 9-0
Alabama is 8-1

Those two are probably going to be hard to catch, especially with Auburn having beaten us head to head. But the last 2 spots for the top 4 SECT seeding are wide open

6-2 Missouri
6-3 Florida (went 1-1)
6-3 A&M (still to play)
6-4 Ole Miss (still to play)

Got 2 back to back roads games after this one, so for sure need the win tonight to stay in the hunt for a top 4 SEC finish in regular season and a 1 seed in March.
I love your optimism, but I don’t see the Vols getting a 1 seed. We are going to drop 2 or 3 more game before the big dance. Still have 5 road conference games. We are likely a 2/3 seed for March Madness. Hope they prove me wrong, will gladly eat my humble pie! Conference tournaments are a downer, for teams who are already locks for NCAA bids.

They give out 4.

Auburn (21-1) and Duke (19-2) are probably in the best position to land 2 of them

We're 18-4 and sitting 4th in the AP poll.

Houston is 5th right now, 18-4
Bama is 3rd at 19-3
Florida is 6th at 19-3
Purdue is 7th at 18-5
Iowa State is 8th 17-5 (but might drop more after back to back blowout losses)
Michigan State is 9th at 18-4
A&M is 10th at 17-5

I think Vols at 25-6 would easily be a 1 seed. The only way that doesn't happen is if Florida and Bama both end up with better records than us.

Defensive effort is name of the game with this years team. The shots may or may not fall but as long as the defensive effort is there they have a great shot to win.

When the effort slips we get UK and vandy games.

I can't agree with this more. What's worse is I don't know when to expect each one. I guess I'll hope for the AU and home FL, but expect the UK and Vandy energy.

Don't think there is any way realistically we can go 25-6

I expect more like 23-8 and a 2 seed. SEC is just too tough. Probably lose 3 more sec games and 1 sec tourney game.

vs Mizzou
at Kentucky
at A&M
vs Bama

That's the last 4 current top 15 matchups on the schedule... we have 9 games remaining. I don't think 5-4 is how we finish the season. The first 8 SEC games included playing 5 current top 15 teams and 2 were road games.

7-2 or 6-3 would seem more likely to me...considering in this 9 game stretch we play 5 of the bottom half of teams in the SEC

Grandson just called me and asked if I wanted to go to the game tonight. He got 4 tickets and a parking pass at his work. I said, "Hell yeah" of course. Count me in! If you see the black Dodge SRT Hemi with orange and white stripes.....thats us. Wavie and say, "Go VOLS"!!

We are a projected #1 seed for March.....and are #4 in the country. Not sure where you get a must win

Can’t be a streak with 2 in a row. Here’s hoping they come out strong and try to deflate some the air Mizzu has had recently.

ZZ will be much appreciated if he can play tonight. What about Igor? After that win vs Florida, I'm hoping we can keep that winning streak for a while. Go Vols!

Why is this game a MUST win?
It’s a home game and we’ve already lost one of those to a team we “should” have beaten. Not many road wins to be had in this league. All home games are “musts” for the best seeding in March. Didn’t think it’s that hard to understand really.

Yes it is. You saying it is a must win game is dumb.

Get ready vol nation, gonna be a pins and needles type of game IMO. Missouri is better than Florida, they have had success in Knoxville. If they get to 70 don’t think we can win. They shoot a high percentage from 2 and 3 plus they are way deeper than us. Grill is a 50% shooter from 3. Our defense will win this game if we prevail. Mizzou better have their big boy pants on because we are gonna get after them. Hoping for a soft whistle and they let them slug it out. We need to stay out of foul trouble. Freedom of movement will be a challenge tonight. Still shocked at this line. Go Vols!

We're projected as a 1 seed as we speak, and #4 nationally in the AP. I honestly don't care about the conference, and am really only concerned with the national ranking as it relates to seeding. If we're healthy going in and a 1 or 2 seed in the NCAA's, we're good to go.

I guess Clad did not really elaborate. It’s probably pretty close to a much win if we want to keep the number one seed But then again, the majority of the rest of them will be…

Good point, but I'd still take my chances on making them take tough 2's. It's hard to go on runs with half court possessions resulting in 2's, and given the way we're playing this season, it's going to be harder for them to win a close to the vest kind of game being forced to settle for 2's.
The key is keeping them from running and making every possession a dogfight. Of course, us shooting a decent % from the floor will go a long way in making that happen.

And rebound. No second chance points, especially kick outs for wide open threes.

Last week we were a #4. This week we are back to a #1. If we lose, we are a #2 and still a top 10 team.
