The Official #5 Tennessee vs. Kentucky Game Thread, 12:00 PM ET, ESPN

Plavsic played his ass off today and kept Tennessee in this game.

We were out worked on the glass today and that hurt us more than missing 5 or 6 layups in the game.
They must have partied hard last night . As much as it hurts , it’s over and time to move on . Just sucks , cause we don’t know which team will show up game in and game out .

We literally just had the "wake up call" game with Vandy.

Oh c'mon. A close game at halftime is a wake up call? KY is the type team we will have to beat to get anywhere in March, so to take a loss that hurts as much as this one is one of two things - either a wake up call or it exposes us as not as good as we thought we were.

I choose to believe it's the former.

If we hit our 3's we win, we don't, we lose. It is as simple as that. We have no one who can take over a game. JJJ should be that guy and Phillips should be close behind, 5 ☆s both, because other teams have that but we seem to never have it. GO VOLS anyway!

Hit our 3's and rebound. We got crushed on the boards, which killed us.

Why isn't it? Why do you have to lose a game for it to be a "wake up call"? We were 17 point favorites and we were losing at halftime.

I see all the whining and quitting already on here, just amazing. Yeah, bad loss, laid an egg in a big spot against our main rival, missed layups, couldn't throw it in the ocean from 3, beaten up on the boards, outcoached - all of that is true. Now it's over, we're first round fodder?

It's January. If we take a loss like that in late February, I'm way more concerned. Hopefully this game serves as a major wake up call and sends the message that we just can't just show up expecting teams to lay down. It's all about the tournament, and taking a loss like this now might not be the worst thing, as painful as it was to watch.
A lot of our fans are pathetic whinny losers, is what it is.

I thought we learned that lesson with Colorado. Honestly, what concerns me is that we played like this at home and really this is back to back games playing like this, Vandy just isn’t as talented as UK. And who doesn’t get up to play Kentucky? We’re still in line to get a great seed and have a great year but games like this are exactly why we go home early in March. I’m hoping we won’t this year but it’ll be in the back of our minds when the time comes.

Vandy game was fine. They shot well in the first half, and we locked down the second half. Vandy just beat Arky today. It’s like some folks don’t realize that basketball is 30+ games. It happens.

Right. Except neither of us actually proved anything and if it was an argument it was the dumbest thing to argue about ever. My palms are quite hairy already thank you very much!
Condolences on the palms. Just because something isn't seen doesn't mean the proof isn't there.....

Panic probably. Yeah it doesn't seem like it is 100% Barnes. Barnes is a genius about getting teams to play tough defense and keeping opponents from scoring but our offense has been dreadful for the most part. Need to hire an assistant from a team that scores 100s of points regularly and figure out how we can score more often.

It’s surprising the number of teams who struggle offensively. They dribble and pass the ball around the perimeter before someone attempts to go one on one and forces a shot or pass it back out late in the shot clock.

This team also lacks a transition game which is a bit surprising. You have to get some easy transition baskets.

Sorry, it’s not quite that simple. If we even rebound okay…just okay, we win. If we finish at the rim, we win. If we hit the front ends of 1&1’s, we win. Just sayin’.

I think it's the latter. We got no one that you can turn to when you really need a bucket. Teams can take vescovi away. Key has disappeared and you never know if ON will show up. There's not a lot of "toughness" on this roster. Yes, they can play good defense, but I don't see that grit, fire, edge... whatever you want to call it..on this roster. Things get tough and I'm not sure they're the sort that can overcome it. I see another early exit come march.

Uros excluded, this was about as unmotivated of a team I’ve ever seen. Drove 2 hrs to see them, still had a fun day with my son but I’ll have to see a little give a damn out of them before i catch another one live.

And Colorado. We just keep hitting the snooze button it seems.

Personally I think the "Wake up call" is cliched and way over used, and honestly I question why a "wake up call" is needed in the first place. You need a "wake up call" against your biggest basketball rival....at home.....on Chris Lofton Day? Really?

I wasted a day watching worse than this vs Colorado so don’t feel so bad
