The Official #5 Tennessee vs. Kentucky Game Thread, 12:00 PM ET, ESPN

I never understand this. How can you NOT want to win more? It’s your home court. You’re the one fighting for the SEC championship. Makes no sense. It’s now happened twice this year. Colorado and Kentucky. Both times we admitted we didn’t want it as badly. Both times we lost.

I’m not even sure how you fix that.

Truth but a loss like today might help fix it. I know those players are mad about this one and they should be.

I ddint post this, but someone I was talking to in the RF did. "I also think Zeigler was great driving the ball but, he and the rest of the team, struggle at the rim because we have small and/or un-athletic guards which causes them to be tight when laying the ball up. Either rushing or manipulating the spin even when it isn’t necessary will cause unexplainable misses versus athletic guards that just trust that they’re not getting blocked and attack."
This is my point on ZZ being the one in the lane is bad, hes too small, bigs dont see him as a threat because he cant get over them.

I saw a thread on The General’s Quarters a week ago talking about how Zeiglar is a better player than Kennedy Chandler. Well…. Chandler would never have missed 3 wide open layups last year. Kennedy will go down as the most underappreciated player in Tennessee history and I stand by that. Today, if we had Kennedy, we easily win this game.

Chandler would’ve had 20 today easily

Thats not what im saying. ZZ, SV, JJJ theyre shooters, they arent finishers. Phillips or Key are slashers that get to the rim, put the ball in their hands late tell them get to the middle of the pain and either finish or kick. SV should be standing behind the 3 pt line not the one driving its not his game.

Key a slasher? Jesus man wtf are you smoking. He has the worst 2PT % on the team of players with a make.

This was one of our "orange funk" games. We have a few of these every year. Where it seems as if we regressed a bit. Look for a much better effort next time out.

This was a game where our lack of PG depth finally reared its ugly head. Anytime ZZ was on the bench with foul trouble we struggled. And when ZZ was on the court he was missing layups and had some inexcusable turnovers. We missed Kennedy in this game probably worse than any game this season.

You are correct. It is a bullcrap response without any thought to it. These players should hate to lose.

I’d like to see the plus minus. Wouldn’t be surprised if we were better with Key at point thanZZ today.

Anyone else feel like JJJ is still having knee soreness?

He seemed off today and didn’t show a lot of fight and hustle.

If that’s true that’s on James, the supposed leader of our team. Desire is one thing you can’t coach. I’m guessing it’s just something to say after a loss though. Surely it isn’t actually true. I’ll hope it’s not anyway.

TN was just bad today offensively. I love Uros—but when he’s your MVP then something is not going well. It’s basketball and it happens to the best teams. I’d rather get these fluke games out now than in late February. Missing layups like TN did and shooting that badly would get most teams ran out of the gym. We still had a shot to win with under 2 minutes to go. The only reason everyone is whining is bc of how bad KY has looked recently. That KY roster has enough talent to be legit contenders but I think TN is still the better team…just not today.
