The Official #6 [2] Tennessee vs. #2 [1] Houston Game Thread, 2:20 PM ET, CBS

Alot of hand checks by Houston that were called all year. Over the back not called that ended up with an extra possession resulting in 2.
There is hand checking and contact on every possession. Their 2nd chance points were from clean rebounds. We got out hustled and didn’t box out. Houston is rabid on the boards as all five crash after every shot. Refs called a good game.

We had a great season, our first half today just dug us to big a hole. But we did keep battling in the second half. We started driving to the basket more and rebounded better. Barnes needs to recruit us a few bigger stronger guys inside that can rebound and score and find a few more quality shooters. Houston’s big men were all in the 6’8” range but all of them have arm length that makes them 7 foot. They are also athletic with girth. So in essence they are 7 footers were power and athleticism. We need more of that. Auburn has 2 like that with Broome and Caldwell. Our tall guys are thin and get moved around a lot. We got to get stronger down low. GBO

2024 vs Purdue: 3-12 / 1-8 from 3 point / 9 points
2025 vs Houston: 1-9 / 1-6 from 3 point / 5 points

This is not a slight or bash of ZZ, but I would have wagered any amount of money he wouldn't have had these back to back performances in the Elite 8
I knew we were in trouble early in the game when ZZ was unable to dribble penetrate inside the paint. It’s too late now but wish we had isolated to allow him to go one on one.

ZZ brought a lot to this program and will be remembered for years to come. Just surprised he struggled again today.

Our bigs looked like a reincarnation of Bobby Croft not Tom Boerwinkle!

Vols need so much for next season - point guard(s), Offensive minded wings (6'7" or taller) Shooting guards.
you go out and rob the mid majors and you get a Clayton like UF got or a DK like we got and you're set. Guys with experience and some have played in high pressure etc.. UFs best players are portals, Kentucky's whole team is new. Thats why you are starting to see chalk in final 4 all Auburns best players came thru portal. What you will start seeing is a few of the rich Unis will go buy players and you will not see the mid major upsets because the players that drove that in the past are all playing for blue bloods and MONEY.

Zakai has never been a scorer or a guy you rely on as a shooter. He’s never been a guy who steps up with huge scoring efforts in big spots. He has many great qualities as a college basketball player and had a tremendous career here, but it wasn’t terribly surprising that a guy who shot under 40% for his career would struggle to score in the biggest spots.

ZZ’s total stats would not be as high if this happened, but I’d love to see how things would have worked out if Chandler stayed 4 years, and ZZ got to focus on just being an attack dog in defense and as a secondary ball handler on offense who could spot up and shoot more rather than being the only real creator for 3 years.

yeah, not to pile on, but I think it's fair to say that Igor was not the player we thought we were getting. especially in the last 12-15 games.

I felt great and just had the tv on as background. Happened to sit down for a sec and accidentally saw the whole bit. Never even heard of this guy until 15 minutes ago. Now I feel let down already, like it’s a foregone conclusion now. I know it’s nonsense, too, but how does he walk it back if those picks don’t win? I wish I’d never seen it. 🤪
Nailed our game and the Auburn game.
I want to know who he has going to the Championship game so I can bet these final four games. lol

Sure but ZZ was averaging 17.5 points and 7.5 assists in March. Doesn’t matter if he wasn’t a career scorer, but this March, he was anchoring a lot of the offense.

Anybody that thinks they can define a ceiling on sports athlete driven with chemistry variables is nuts. If we have better players next year we likely have better results. Might not have a short bench next year due to injury and unexpected defection, a couple of guys did not sustain levels we needed to be a better team.

But I can’t imagine anybody has a better pitch for difference makers to follow DK and Lanier than Barnes. So I will keep my Vol card in tact and dismiss those FOLLOWERS with negative value add to the program. They can only have positive value add to the LEGION membership.
Have to have the money and the Jimmies and Joe's. That is all that matters! We were blessed to have 4 year players Mashack and ZZ, we will probably not see that too often going forward. Tennessee is a very good program, but is not consistently elite. Back to back Elite Eights is good and is the ceiling in which we cannot break through. I hope Barnes gets there but this team is losing essentially everything before next season. You cannot replace ZZ and Mashack with freshmen players now, the portal is the only thing that matters. You can be upset at Vol fans who are fired up about the loss but that is why they are called fans and have every right to voice their frustration and displeasure with the Vols ceiling. Doesn't take away that we have a good basketball program, but fans can be fans positive or negative and maintain their pseudo Vol card.

Shout out to Vol nation! My last two road trips to see the Vols were Columbus for the playoff and Indy for basketball and proud to see the best fan base in the country show up like they do!

That being said based on the results I might need to sit the next one out 😬
