The Official #6 Tennessee @ Texas A&M Game Thread, 8:00 PM ET, ESPN

Sadly, this is probably true. If Pat has half the ego I think he has, he probably can’t entertain the thought that he’s anything less than very good at his job.

If he's like most egomaniacs I know, even if he knew what Barnes did it doesn't matter; those type people don't care about what's right or facts or anything. They care about them.

Another poster already pointed that out. It’s late and I botched the details. But the point is that Barnes has only made one derp run in the NCAA. One. In about 40 years.

My guess is until this moment you thought it was the Durant team.

Ok fine, I want a FF too, but no Tennessee coach has done it Not even the great Bruce Pearl did it.

Just sucks. Tennessee has that one flaw and always bites them in the ass.
2017-2018
Alexander gets hurt and no post depth at all
2018-2019
Can’t guard the three
2020-2021
Offensively challenged multiple flaws
2021-2022
No consistency in the post. True live and die be the three team
2022-2023
Offensively challenged multiple flaws
2023-2024
One major flaw. Teams that can do most of their work in the post/paint
Purdue
Kansas
Unc
Miss state
A&m
5 out of 6 losses this year. Teams that work in post/paint. Gotta get better there. Rim protection and rebound with physicality has to improve

What a disgraceful performance. One night the team looks like they could compete in the NBA, the next game they look like they're playing with their shoes tied together and blindfolds on. Hopefully can put some good tournament runs together to take it down (the talent is there) but I'm not going to hold my breath for anything past Round 2.

You can’t prepare to run a marathon by just watching YouTube videos of people running marathons. You have to get out there and run.

Oh no doubt. But maybe before the big marathons at the end, they could, you know, try just running a half-marathon instead, or something? One of those corporate workplace 5Ks where people sneak around the corner and grab lunch at Twin Peaks, and then sneak back into the pack near the last mile. Or last K. Whatever.

Don’t ALL teams keep practicing in February and March? The Barnes wears them down narrative is tired.

We missed a lot of shots. They made 8 3-pointers with a couple of minutes remaining in the first half when they only average 6x made 3s per game.
The one thing about this is Barnes playing his guys when the game is already decided. That’s bothered me since he got here.

Barnes NCAAT struggles haven’t been fatigue related imo. It’s a convenient take given the horrid performance tonight, but not an accurate take. IMO, it’s mostly been because he has had teams that weren’t particularly strong offensively (2018, 2021, 2022, 2023) combined with some crappy luck (Kyle Alexander injury in 2018, Carsen Edwards phantom three point shot foul in 2019, Zeigler injury last season).

He’s not innocent in the struggles. The fact he’s not had strong offensive teams in the years I listed off is on him as those were his teams of players he recruited. He also hasn’t been the best bench coach in some of those early exits, but there’s no denying that luck has not been on Rick’s side for whatever reason (and yes, luck is a huge part of making a run in a one and done tournament with so many good teams). Just think saying it’s because his teams are worn down is a convenient but inaccurate take.

As for this team, physicality is not this team’s strength and there are still some guys on offense that are a mixed bag. You know DK is going to score, you know ZZ is going to dish, score, and be a pest defensively. Aside from that, who knows. That kind of inconsistency isn’t conducive to making a deep run in a single elimination tournament.

I agree. Aidoo is week and has hands of stone. I wish Awaka was 3-4 inches taller.

My one criticism of Barnes has been not ever getting a dominant post player. Pons was a dominant shot blocker but I’m talking about a dominant 5 man who can box out and rebound and also dominate the 1 on 1 post up game.

Not wrong, but ngl. Brandon Huntley Hatfield would have been that guy. May get some heat for it but he was 6”10 and 250. Athletic and had skill around the rim. Losing him sucked. Him and Aidoo rotating at the 5 cause a lot of problems for teams.

Really unfortunate that BHH received such terrible advice. He would have been tremendous here if he and his people had have bought in.

There just aren’t many of those around. I’m pretty sure we tried to get in on Tshiebwe when he transferred.

But the game is played differently now, and there aren’t many dominant big men. Edey, Dickinson, Bacot, and Tolu Smith are all very good but interestingly, they are all seniors who weren’t projected high picks.

The funk came back tonight. The same funk that has plagued them for the last 3 years. Even DK got in on the action early. Nobody can hit a shot or get a rebound.
