The Official #6 Tennessee @ Texas A&M Game Thread, 8:00 PM ET, ESPN

I would flush this game and no need to point out any players because no one played well tonight. Moreso our gameplan and lack of adjustments just sucked. No crime in losing to a good team on the road so won't overreact but hope we respond well against a bad Arkansas team on the road midweek. Lost opportunity to get on the 1 seed line which is disappointing, but I suppose that is meaningless at this point anyway.

I hate it when the ole "they wanted it more than us" is thrown out there but effort definitely mattered throughout this game and A&M just got it done. Effort often shows up on the boards and they owned us. Two games in a row where this weakness has been glaring. When Knecht leads us in rebounding and he spent more time than usual on the bench due to foul trouble, that is a problem.

Overall, Buzz just had his guys prepared on both ends and our gameplan wasn't effective nor did we adjust at all. We just tried to spread them out defensively and it didn't work the entire game and we never really even tried our motion sets. Weren't aggressive offensively and had very little emphasis to get ball into the paint either on the post or by driving and we lived and died by the perimeter shot. We made it easy on A&M's defense.

On the other end, while they shot lights out especially early, we couldn't stay in front of their guards the entire game and couldn't block out anyone. As bad as we were offensively, we were much worse defensively. A&M scored 12 pts over their average. We never tried to trap and double their guards and force them to give up the ball, we continued to switch on screens and A&M just ran the same play over and over and over again with favorable 1x1 matchups. Even our best 1x1 defenders, Mashack, Zeigler and Vescovi got abused. Barnes didn't have any other solution to defend them. That was disappointing. We face A&M again at home and hope we prep better for what they present.

Move on and beat the Hogs! Our last 5 games of the SEC schedule is brutal. If we get to the point where the odds of us winning the SEC is low, you wonder if the coaches start looking to prepare for March and give some guys more rest. We looked tired tonight.

Didn't shoot well, didn't shoot free throws well (60 percent?--no excuse) and didn't play good defense--and in a conference road game, that almost always add up to an L.

The 3-point discrepancy wasn't that bad--the Aggies made 3 more than we did. But our supporting cast---Vescovi, Ziggy and James--
were all very bad offensively (and apparently not to stellar on defense either). And Gainey also had a bad shooting night. We have to have
productive nights from at least two of the three to win games like this. We had none. None of the four if we include Gainey.

At the time it happened it could have gotten Tennessee back in the game. I don’t understand why a technical was not called. I think Adam’s knew he screwed up because Barnes was all over him and he did not call a technical foul.
We were making a run, so as people predicted, Adams inserted himself into the outcome of the game by ignoring that blatant BS.

When Awaka gets 3 fouls in 12 minutes he’s probably not getting more PT. Putting opponents on the free throw line creates a huge disadvantage.

I kind of get that, but he’s only got five fouls to give. If he picks up three in twelve minutes, what’s two more in twenty-ish minutes? If he blocks out Garcia and eliminates some of the second chance opportunities in those extra minutes, it’s a net positive.

If you or anyone else thinks we lost this game due to officiating then I don’t know what you were watching. They outplayed us, out shot us, out rebounded us, out defended us, shot a higher percentage from 2, shot a higher percentage from 3, shot a higher percentage on free throws. The Aggies beat us fair and square - the officials didn’t determine the winner of tonight’s game.

Where did I say we lost because of officiating? I’ll wait……

street ball. nCAA won’t let that happen. We played poorly. Sisnt play freshman, didn’t adjust to their physical play. Aidoo to weak got pushed literally around and Awaka got called for pushing.

I’m honestly surprised Barnes didn’t take the opportunity around the two or three minute mark when it was clear the game was over to really give Pat the business and pick up a couple of techs to head to the locker room early.

The officiating was far from our biggest issue tonight, but seems like there is always a highly questionable call (or two or three or more) that go against us when Pat Adams is present. Barnes obviously recognizes it.
guessing he had money on the game

Well that sucked - hate it for the Vol fans that attended the game. I said before the game that it would be a tough game if we struggled to stay in front of their guards and we did. Add their three pointers that were way above their average and we didn’t have any answers. I’m not sure how we’re going to stop their guards from driving the lane in 2 weeks either. Guess we’ll see what Barnes draws up before then. Credit to the Aggies as they simply kicked our tails tonight.
Yeah the three point barrage (which nobody saw coming) changed every aspect of the game. It was the biggest game of the year so far for A&M and they delivered and deserved the win!

I will never forget his technical on Maymon in the SECT. His reaction was ridiculous.
Brought back ptsd with those counzo teams lol. His last team was one of the worst coaching jobs Tennessee ever had. Barnes gets a lot of hate, but man. Previous 2 guys before him. Sheesh.

Only thing he can do. Publicly humiliate Pat and probably call the SEC office behind the scenes to let them know exactly how he feels about Pat’s officiating. Beyond that, there’s nothing he can do unless he’s willing to take a fine by criticizing officiating in a press conference.

Given everything going on with UT athletics at the moment with the lawsuits, I’d say all the coaches have a directive to not throw a tirade about officiating in a press conference. He will do everything he can and at that point it is in the conference’s hands.
Let me know when the video or audio of Barnes "publicly humiliating" Adams drops. I'll enjoy watching that.

Counzo fooled a lot of people including me in the beginning. He quickly showed his true colors. Those were some drinking days.

Did you watch the last eleven seconds? Calling the timeout when RB did when the game was long over with just to talk to Pat near mid court where everyone could see was as close to public humiliation as it gets in that business.
