The Official #6 Tennessee vs. Alabama Game Thread, 2:00 PM ET, ESPN2

Bet he and Coach have discussed shot selection, and I will go with them. Bet it goes like this, Don’t want him shooting long 2’s and needs to shoot some long shots so they will close out on him and open the lane up.

LC
Why would Aidoo need bama to close out on him? Aidoo isn’t going to dribble drive the lane From 23’ out like a wing player.

To take a big out of the lane so K and Santiago or others can drive to shoot or dish. Have you never noticed him out there at the top of the key. He is much more nimble than most of the bigs he faces and gets those drop downs from ZZ and others on his way back down.

Not to be an arse, but that’s typical referred to as the pick and roll which is completely different than Aidoo sporting up for a 3 pointer. And yes, ZZZ & Aidoo have been very good in the pick & Roll this year

Just his presence on the floor opens up a lot of things. The other team gives him so much attention it gives everybody else open shots. And yeah, when 25 is an off night and we win by 20 against a really good team, that says a lot.
Looks kinda funny when a player scoring 25 points is an OFF night.

I mean I'll tak3 30 a game from DK any time we can get it, but I think longer athletic teams are gonna plan well for it down the road. Gonna be difficult to keep it up all year. Really need some contribution from from JJJ and Vescovi if we want to make a long run. Really was hoping Gainey would be able to be more of a consistent scoring threat for us.
Well...thank you Gainey! 15 from him and 10 from Vescovi to go with DKs 25, and Aidoos 19...that's some real balance there. Throw in Zig doing his thing, this can be a dangerous team coming down the stretch. Hopefully we don't peak too soon and can keep the consistency going.

Nothing wrong with him flashing up and making passes to cutters or outside guy. But he has to watch dribbling to much way away from the basket. Now when he can back down from 10-12 ft and high point his shot that is his game. The rule for any big man is always the less dribbles in the paint the better. GBO

Gainey really stepped up. Was great to see.

Score wise, we beat the spread handily, winning me some $. Stats wise, I was most pleased to see a team wide 21/7 assist/TO ratio, with ZZ and SV combining for 11/0. Played a pretty clean game other than a lot of fouls, but that's how it goes sometimes.

Consistency is the key, can we get balanced scoring on a consistent basis nightly in the SEC. The potential is there but we gotta prove it. Barnes can give the guys a couple days off, as we don’t play again till Saturday at Vandy. Rest, refocus, prepare! This may be Barnes best chance to make some noise in tournament of madness. Fingers crossed we stay healthy and hungry and play like we have a point to prove. The chemistry is there!

I agree, but they run him out there on occasion for a reason. Aidoo just doesn't wander out to the 3-point line for the hell of it, it's part of a play and he's been told to shoot it when he's open, sparingly, imo

Correct me if wrong, but I believe that the first four shots taken by the 7'2" Kentucky dude, playing his first game yesterday, were all TREYS--and he made them all. Four for four. He's suddenly made the cats much better.

Aidoo's scoring has been huge and has made us a much harder team to defend. We need Vescovi and JJJ to take the shots that are there for them--and get to the rim when possible. They are both capable of doing that. Vescovi seemed more in the flow of our offense yesterday than he's been most of this year, and that was good to see. The guy can make threes--which makes it tougher for teams to sag on Knecht or Aidoo--and get to the rim. We like to work the ball around, and he still sometimes passes up shots that I think are there, but the offense has been looking pretty strong recently.

The way Bama plays the potential for fouls are at a higher percentage. Plus, we had a comfortable lead throughout and officials have a tendency with the whistle to lean to the losing team. Saw it last night in the Kentucky- Georgia game. But you are right we took care of the ball against a team that was averaging almost 8 steals per game. Our defense made them look clueless. That doesn’t happen to them often with the way they spread the floor. Their philosophy is to score by dunks or layups (get fouled) or collapse the D and kick to shooters on the 3 line. We locked them down on the perimeter and our depth and defensive intensity wore them down. Estrada and Sears were exhausted with 10 minutes left.

Bama's offense reminded me of a pick-up game at some YMCA. Whoever had the ball was either going to jack up a 3, or put their head down and drive. Sears was/is a ball hog and didn't pass the ball.

For a PG he sure doesn't know how to pass the ball

Vescovi is an unreal passer in the paint. I don’t know how he makes some of the passes. The defense has to know it’s coming and they still cannot stop it. Eventually, I suspect he will have to pull up and take some 8-10 footers.

Hopefully we peak at the right time. I’m not getting any younger and attending a TN final four game(s) is on my bucket list, along with the Vols NCAAF playoff game(s).
