The Official #8 Tennessee vs. USC Upstate Game Thread, 5:00 PM ET, SEC Network

Pember should look at transferring if playing time is important to him.

Why? He has a “free” year this year & can still RS if he wants. Fulky waited 4 seasons before he got real playing time and it worked out for him.

Feel like Drew may go the Jalen Johnson route, stay and earn as much time as ya can then grad transfer and start at a lower level and have big numbers.

I’d be fine with Pons rarely taking a 3 and instead staying close to the basket. We have plenty of great players that face the basket. Pons just needs to hit a 3 every game or two to keep defenses from cheating and doubling up Fulk.
Definitely shouldn’t be taking many, but needs to show the ability to hit the open one. He hasn’t done that this year, but obviously did in last year. Just hope he doesn’t lose confidence since he isn’t as much of a focal point in the offense.

Pons has to keep firing those 3s

He can make them at a very good % and he can’t allow the lane to get clogged up

I said last game that a few defensive weaknesses were exposed. The difference in margin is also exactly what I pointed out. Three point shooting. St Joe’s was 20%.

The over pursuit of Fulk guarding the pick man has got to stop. He has to know his man is going to roll, and he is leaving the paint completely empty. The last two teams have uses their over aggression against them and gotten easy buckets.

You can say I’m being negative but it’ll burn them when they play a more talented opponent.
Good note. You are correct, Fulkerson is hedging out too far and leaves an easy path down the lane for the player rolling. When he switches he is often allowing a dribble drive as well.

Barnes will help him work it out. Can you imagine having the offensive output being lifted? Barnes and English need to help him focus on the finer points. Imma gonna watch...

UT won by 20, but SC Upstate looked like a decent Bball team. This is gonna be a fun season. No way this team gets knocked out of the tourney early. No way. Assuming we get a tourney this year...

Lmao ok. Maybe that holds true layer on, I can admit that, but through 6 games there’s nobody with 2 eyes and a brain that should have that stance.

You can when you want the most talented players on the floor playing.

I’m fine with Bailey starting right now. But if this team wants to win, they need Johnson and Springer get a ton of minutes and developing. And if that means a few minutes off Bailey, then that needs to be done.

Also Bailey has the nice point totals and he’s shooting well, but Keon/Springer both have better assist/rebounding numbers and Jaden is actually shooting even better than Bailey

A legit argument can probably be made that Walker has more “talent” than Fulky or Anosike for sure, yet he doesn’t see the floor...it’s not jus talent, skill, experience, composure etc all factor in as well.

Regardless what anyone thinks of his MPG, we can all agree Bailey was a great get. I don’t feel like we talked much about him when it happened. Uros got way more attention, for instance, as a transfer.

Just finished watching the game. Obviously we didn’t play nearly as well as we have been. But the thing that surprised me the most about this game is that Upstate was 0-7

I thought the same thing. I figured either we were playing so bad it made them look decent, or they were just playing much better than they had been.

The first 7 min or the game or so it definitely felt like we were workshopping some stuff on offense. Idk if anyone else noticed, but our pace was insanely fast at the start of the game.

Guess we were hoping for a bigger impact from Uros as we thought he was going to be immediately eligible whereas we knew Bailey was going to sit a year. Once Bailey became available, we had 2 new 5 * guards to grab our attention

I haven’t seen Walker play a minute of college ball while I have six games on the three players. So I can’t attest to his talent level or whether he should playing or not.

Meanwhile I’ve seen all three play, I see the numbers and I’ve seen the talent level of all three. And I stand by saying Johnson/Springer should play more.

They obviously hit some shots but I thought they were very effective w their screens

You are going to have to give the definition of talent that you are using. Talent. Physical attributes. Skills. Instincts. Feel/IQ. Understanding the system. Toughness. Potential. Production. Lots of variables we can mix together.

The thing I love about Bailey is that he has no hesitation when he gets his shot. He's confident, sees the shot, and takes the shot. Too many times the last few years we've had guys who had a shot, hesitated a bit, and then either shot or didn't. This year there has been much less of that, and I love seeing the shot and taking it.

The argument about minutes shouldn’t be who “deserves” them now. The argument should be who makes us the best come March. I’m not going to side either way on Bailey vs the two diaper dandies other than to say I think the minutes should be a little closer to even.

it’s certainly reasonable to say the team would be better in March when a final 4 is on the line with the diaper dandies in and not Bailey.

Obviously a different sport but when Dabo went with Lawrence over the older very solid QB that seemed iffy at the time. It paid off.

That’s why we can’t just say things are going so well now why change anything. It’s not about now it’s about March
