Bottom line....... UT as a team is going to have to prove itself as a team and win back some national respect before any individual will get any honors. JMO

But not in the SEC :nono:

The rest of the country doesn't view the SEC as highly as we do. We still have a high profile league, but remember when Auburn went undefeated throughout the season and STILL didn't play for a NC? It's because the coaches and media polls didn't put them where they deserved to be ... one of the top 2 teams.

Annnnyway, 2 posts above is correct.

I'll put my money on fostermom's thread. :dunno:
oh that post was fine. it's just to me that before we start talking about any individuals on this team, THIS TEAM needs to do something first. Beat Cal. Beat UF. Beat UGA. then we can start talking about how good an individual is/has been during the season, whomever that might be...Foster, Ainge, Meecham etc....

I agree, but since the season is still 3 months away and we have nothing to talk about......

Football season can't get here soon enough. I can't wait until they start practicing again at least that will give us some news to read up on and some practice highlights to look at. Does anyone know when practice starts for sure? I know it will start sometime either this month or July but are there any definate dates set yet?

And if you talk to most anyone on that team, you'll find that none of them think it's all about them individually. They are aware of the need for the team to step up. They are aware that one guy cannot be the team. They know that there will have to be several offensive leaders needed to take this team and carry it all the way. They know that. And the ones who need to, will. The youth on this team will rise to the occasion and step into those leadership roles. Mark my words.

I expect nothing less. Sometimes we get something less. But the expectation remains.

I look forward to seeing how this year's team comes together.

Just a little more from me on this. I can't imagine having my professional future depend on whether enough players, really just young men, are going to step up and lead. A coach could do everything right seemingly, and still not have his team develop the kind of character needed to pull itself through a season.

I'm not really saying this as some kind of a crutch I'm throwing to Fulmer. It's true for everyone who coaches across the country. A team might or might not gel, it's a fact of coaching young men. That coaches want to do something that could fall apart because of poor chemistry and or maturity, is amazing to me....

Fulmer, as an example, has two million reasons to place himself in the situation you describe.

Good. I would hope the team feels that way. I was more or less just talking about the fan talk....i didn't think the players were talking themsleve up or anything....

here's to hoping you're 100% correct. :toast:

I don't expect him to fumble in and out of the endzone!!! OUCH

Hello VN, only a few months away...

Actually, it was Roman Harper and he is gone also. (NFL Draft)

Should be a great season and I can't wait! Knoxville is one of my favorite trips.

For my part, I am just glad that Arian and, by your info, the rest of the team is working hard. I think that a big frustration the last few years for a lot of fans is that our teams have had so much potential. There are many people that can share the blame, but I as a fan just want our players to put in their best effort. Coaching is another story, but regardless, I think the last few seasons there has been an intangible quality to our teams that has frustrated most fans, where it seemed like players were not going the extra mile and pushing themselves to be the best that they could possibly be. College (whether sports or academics) is what you make of it. It's an opportunity. As long as i can see our boys giving all they can I will not criticize the players. I for one can't wait for next season because I feel like we're going to do pretty well.
Go Vols :peace:

it was a freshman mistake, just trying to make a play for the team. Every freshman that starts early makes one big mistake, that was Arians.

True.........That said, Arian is a gamer. I think as far as individuals go Arian was one of a (very) few on offense that stepped it up, gave a 100% last year.We don't have to worry about him slacking off.The proof was in the games played last year.PERIOD!

Interestng comparison

1988 UT 5-6
1989 UT 11-1 add Cobb, Webb

2005 UT 5-6
2006 UT ?-? add Foster, Coker

The 1989 OL was very good,
in 2006 OL is very young.

It will be very interesting if UT could make a similar turnaround.

You left out the addition of Carl Pickens and the emergence of Andy Kelly in '89. Those two had a fair amount to do with UT's success that year.
