oh that post was fine. it's just to me that before we start talking about any individuals on this team, THIS TEAM needs to do something first. Beat Cal. Beat UF. Beat UGA. then we can start talking about how good an individual is/has been during the season, whomever that might be...Foster, Ainge, Meecham etc....(utfantilidie @ Jun 8 said:I'll put my money on fostermom's thread. :dunno:

They are aware that one guy cannot be the team. They know that there will have to be several offensive leaders needed to take this team and carry it all the way. They know that. And the ones who need to, will. The youth on this team will rise to the occasion and step into those leadership roles. Mark my words.

I look forward to seeing how this year's team comes together.
Fulmer, as an example, has two million reasons to place himself in the situation you describe.(orange+white=heaven @ Jun 8 said:Just a little more from me on this. I can't imagine having my professional future depend on whether enough players, really just young men, are going to step up and lead. A coach could do everything right seemingly, and still not have his team develop the kind of character needed to pull itself through a season.
I'm not really saying this as some kind of a crutch I'm throwing to Fulmer. It's true for everyone who coaches across the country. A team might or might not gel, it's a fact of coaching young men. That coaches want to do something that could fall apart because of poor chemistry and or maturity, is amazing to me....
Good. I would hope the team feels that way. I was more or less just talking about the fan talk....i didn't think the players were talking themsleve up or anything....(fostermom @ Jun 8 said:And if you talk to most anyone on that team, you'll find that none of them think it's all about them individually. True.........That said, Arian is a gamer. I think as far as individuals go Arian was one of a (very) few on offense that stepped it up, gave a 100% last year.We don't have to worry about him slacking off.The proof was in the games played last year.PERIOD!(fostermom @ Jun 8 said:And if you talk to most anyone on that team, you'll find that none of them think it's all about them individually. You left out the addition of Carl Pickens and the emergence of Andy Kelly in '89. Those two had a fair amount to do with UT's success that year.(oklavol @ Jun 8 said:Interestng comparison
1988 UT 5-6
1989 UT 11-1 add Cobb, Webb
2005 UT 5-6
2006 UT ?-? add Foster, Coker
The 1989 OL was very good,
in 2006 OL is very young.
It will be very interesting if UT could make a similar turnaround.
