The Official Boston Red Sox Thread

Gordon Edes roster projection. I think its pretty much right on and I like it.

Disabled list (4): David Ortiz, Stephen Drew, Franklin Morales, Craig Breslow.

Starting pitchers (5): Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, Ryan Dempster, Felix Doubront, John Lackey.

Relievers (7): Joel Hanrahan, Koji Uehara, Junichi Tazawa, Andrew Bailey, Andrew Miller, Alfredo Aceves, Clayton Mortensen (The fact that Clayton Mortensen is out of options makes it more likely that Daniel Bard starts the season in Pawtucket.)

Catchers (2): Jarrod Saltalamacchia, David Ross

Starting infield (4): 1B Mike Napoli, 2B Dustin Pedroia, 3B Will Middlebrooks, SS Jose Iglesias.

Starting outfield (3): LF Jackie Bradley Jr., CF Jacoby Ellsbury, RF Shane Victorino

DH (1): Jonny Gomes

Bench (4): INF Pedro Ciriaco, 1B Mike Carp, OF Daniel Nava, INF Drew Sutton.

Like he said, Bard having an option gives Mortenson the nod, also Holt would get regular AB's with the PawSox, hence Ciriaco and Sutton. Starting pitching depth would be the concern with Morales down to start the season. I could see in the event of an injury, Aceves being a spot starter and Bard coming back to the pen, I don't think we see Webster till later this year if at all.

I think Cano swapping Boras for Hova pretty much eliminates Ellsbury from re-signing with the BoSox next year, jmo.

And I ain't mad at all after watching JBjr. It was fun watching these guys yesterday, its much easier watching people play baseball when they don't all seem like aholes.

Good opening day for the Sox, Lester looked good outside of the 4th inning. We really need him to bounce back this season. JBJ was very impressive in his major league debut, he showed really good plate discipline. Iglesias had 3 hits & none of them left the infield, Lol. The bullpen was throwing some heat on Monday, could be the strong point of this team.

I've been saying it all offseason & I truly believe this, the A.L. East is wide open. Any team could win the division this season. For the Sox to do it they need the rotation to bounce back from last year & the bullpen to be lights out. Health will be a big factor.

Game 2 tonight, Lets go Sox!!

Once everyone is back and if Bradley continues his great approach I'd like to see

Bradley, Dustin, Ells, Ortiz, Napoli, Victorino, Salty, Middlebrooks, Iglesias against RHPs.

Very happy with what I saw offensively from Jose this season, also during the spring. Seems to have made some good strides with his approach and swing. Farrell had him focus on bunting a lot this spring and that was also improved. I hope he really continues his development in the minors, he could be a very impressive player next year or a trade piece if Xander proves he's ready.

First game in Boston since marathon bombings.

Allen Webster was officially recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday evening and is taking over for Felix Doubront in the Red Sox starting rotation for at least one turn.

Looking forward to this kids start tonight, hope he forces them to keep him in the rotation for a few more turns, let Doubront work out of the pen. Doubront is too talented to pitch the way he does, throw strikes young man.

Nice start to the season, better than most could have hoped for. Gotta take the series against the twinkies today tho and get back to the winning ways.
