Webster pitched again yesterday, scouts & Farrell are drooling over this kid. The trade w/ LAD looks better & better each day. RDR or Webster will be the first ones called up to spot start if an injury happens. Excited to see these 2 progress.
Bradley Jr. continues to turn heads this ST, a lot of people are wanting to see him start out w/ the big club. I understand why they want him to start out in AAA, doesn't start his service time & gets him a few more AB's.
That Ortiz contract is looking bad, I'm a huge huge Papi fan but things aren't looking good for him. He's been shut down for a week due to heel sorness. He hasn't been able to get any AB's this ST.
Baseball Prospectus today named its top infield and outfield defenders in the minor leagues, and Red Sox prospects were tops in both.
Shortstop Jose Iglesias was named BPs Top Infield Defender in the Minor Leagues, thanks to his uncanny instincts, near flawless footwork. BP described him an and elite defender: without peer anywhere in the minor leagues.
Center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr., who became the toast of the spring thanks to his bat (hes hitting a Grapefruit League-leading .536), was dubbed BPs Top Outfield Defender in the Minor Leagues. BP described watching Bradley play center field as a breath-taking experience and reads the ball off the bat like no one else. He can go get it from gap to gap, has little trouble on balls hit over his head, and even excels charging in on balls.
Good news for a couple prospects today.
Bryce Brentz getting called up from minor league camp for the start.
Also,
Always have to remind myself that Iglesias is still only 23. Seems to be taking much better swings and at-bats so far this spring and will get a good look with Drew still being limited by the concussion.
- Boston.comIglesias has played 261 games in the minors and had 1,076 plate appearances. To put that in perspective, Pedroia played in 270 minor league games and had 1,216 plate appearances before he stuck with the Red Sox.
Pedroia also had the advantage of playing three seasons at Arizona State, a premier college program, and played 42 games at two levels of Single A ball and 66 games for Double A Portland before he was promoted to Triple A Pawtucket.
Iglesias played only 13 games of Rookie League ball in 2010 before the Sox pushed him to Portland for 57 games.
He started the next season at Pawtucket. Perhaps it should be no surprise that Iglesias has hit .251 in Triple A with a .589 OPS given his quick route there.
