The Official Detroit Lions Den Thread

Yeah but my question remains, don't all successful teams deal with this around this time of year? I don't disagree it's a distraction but I never hear it being used as much of a excuse when a team like this loses. Maybe the Lions are new to it and don't know how to handle it.

The offense had a 98th percentile success rate for a playoff game. The offense was phenomenal except for the turnovers. Not sure how that is on Johnson.

Glenn didn’t change anything, but he never does, so don’t think that reflects on him being distracted. They couldn’t generate a pass rush, their best CB broke his arm on the second play of the game and they were ****ed.

I don’t think the interviews (especially since we had a bye) really reflect that they weren’t prepared. I think it’s more frustration Johnson left for a division rival before the body was cold that has people lashing out. If he went to Jacksonville I don’t think anyone is bringing this up.

It’s only happened 5 times in the history of the NFL that teams lost both Coordinators to Head Coaching jobs.

1994 49ers
1998 Jaguars
2006 Chargers
2013 Bengals
2022 Eagles

Yes but I'm sure every year teams have coordinators interviewed for jobs. I would think the teams that are successful have interest in their coordinators and interviewed regarless of if they accept or get the job.

And of that list 1 won the Super Bowl (49ers), 1 lost the Super Bowl (Eagles), Jags won the WC and lost in the in divisonal, and the other 2 lost in the Divisional but it was Marty Schottenheimer and Marvin Lewis who both are notoriously bad postseason coaches.

So not really a very good excuse imo.

Fraley staying on staff. Big win for Detroit and the Lions. Already got Rodgers on board as DL coach to replace Williams. Good start.

Front office must have a great amount of faith in him.

Dan was talking about him as a future DC back in training camp 2022. I was kind of hoping they would bring in some fresh blood at DC but the fact they did this so quick implies they’ve been planning for this

Right now they’ve lost

Johnson
Glenn
Randle-El
Williams

If that’s it…it could be worse. And keeping Fraley was massive

Question, what's the deal with Hooker in Detroit, is he looking at a career like Dobbs? I mean that's not a knock or anything, that's a good gig to have. But I think for me and others who don't follow the Lions closely it was a bit odd that they brought in Bridgewater and even made him the back up. I get TB is a vet but he also didn't play all season and coached HS football, and he signs and is put in for Goff before Hooker. That doesn't seem like a great sign to me but again I don't follow them closely so I don't know the details.

Probably a bad sign they trusted Bridgewater over Hooker especially since Bridgewater didn’t get signed till mid December

They were really talking about how they trusted Hooker and didn’t look in the offseason or during the year to upgrade. He looked fine in his limited mop up duty this year. When they brought in Bridgewater I figured just to add a good mind to the building. I was shocked he got the backup role for the playoffs. So I’d say probably the Dobbs route. They drafted Hooker to get a cheap backup. If made sense. He was never drafted to be a starter

Well, he might actually be a regular QB2. We'll see. Dobbs hasn't even been a career QB2. The chances are Hooker will never be a regular QB1 for any franchise, but sticking on a roster for a career, even as a QB2 is a step above Dobbs' NFL career

Johnny Morton and David Shaw running my offense would have been exciting in 2016 :/
