Take care of business tomorrow night and Sunday gets more interesting. I don’t think that Carolina deserves a #1 seed, but it might be in play. At minimum, a #2 and play in Charlotte the opening weekend.

In the grand scheme of things, it wasn’t that egregious. Probably happens every game, but he got caught. It wasn’t a basketball play and the flagrant was warranted.

It’s a play that occurs every night. Flagrant was not warranted. I agree his past has a lot to do with it. However that call was bull****.

It was an intentional foul. It’s not like he was setting a screen for a shooter. It was behind the play. He took the risk and got busted.

Your still defending him like he hasn’t done this over and over and over. You can’t say it wasn’t intentional he threw his butt out. Just like the many times before where he threw his foot out. It’s comical to see his tantrums afterward though.

But it was intentional, unnecessary, not a basketball play, and happened behind the action. Unless I'm mistaken, didn't college basketball go away from calling intentional fouls to calling this flagrant 1, flagrant 2 stuff? I think they had to call it as they did.

I think the definition of a flagrant 1 is “excessive or severe contact in live ball action”

I don’t think that fits the criteria. It was absolutely intentional but stuff like that happens all the time, it’s just not shown on camera because guys usually don’t fall like that.

I get Allen’s history and that’s why it was probably called that way. Just saying if you look at that play in a vacuum, I don’t think it qualifies as a flagrant.

If flagrant fouls had a 10 point scale, that foul would get a 1. It was nothing. But it was definitely intentional and unnecessary, therefore excessive. He got caught and it had to be called.

Was he making a play on the ball? Was he involved in the live ball action where the ball was? Could he have avoided Brooks altogether? Did he have to do what he did?

What else are they supposed to call? If they blow the whistle right away, it deprives Carolina of a scoring opportunity with a numbers advantage, which is unfair. Similar to getting fouled on a breakaway.

Agree completely. He shouldn’t have done it, but he got caught. It probably should’ve been a common foul but I don’t think you can go to the monitor once a play is over and call a common foul so they had to call something with his history and I don’t blame them for that. Should’ve been an intentional foul and not a flagrant.

I'm pretty sure they don't call intentional fouls anymore. They replaced it with flagrant 1/flagrant 2. I could be wrong about that, but even Grayson himself said he did it on purpose because they were getting a fast break opportunity. When someone is fouled on a break away, I think they get the flagrant 1, which is two shots and the ball, exactly what Carolina got last night.

You are correct about once they went to the monitor. They even mentioned that during the broadcast. It was either a flagrant 1, or incidental contact and play on. It was obviously not incidental.
