Uhm because you also have to swing the bats and score runs. You're losing this argument. Not sure why you are wasting your time.
The numbers and quality pitchers should be telling you something else. The evidence is factual, yet you know otherwise. Iām telling you factually the sky is blue, but youāre still trying to tell us the sky is gray.I don't personality know him but, I do know someone who pitched for us 2 years ago that transfered out and he said where he's at now as far as coaching (pitching) and the way they workout is way better than the way Anderson did it at TN. He said TV and Elander are as good as it gets.
Well said.Catching up on this - I missed the banter - but agree someone is not winning this argument.
It takes both hitting and pitching along with good defense on the field. This is similar to the football argument about whether it is better to be a great offensive team with poor defense or vice versa.
In reality most teams are not flawless in all aspects of the game. Baseball is a team sport - great teams find ways to win and when one team member is struggling another one steps up in their own way. That is what happened in this game for both teams. Both teams came in as noted teams that are good with the bats, teams that score a lot. Some would say that we and FSU score a lot because where we play is smaller which leads me to what I think is the issue for some.
I think a lot of folks thought - this is Omaha, games are low scoring and pitching contests. You have to have a pitcher that can hold the opponent to 1 or 2 runs to win. This game was not that. Both teams were good at finding ways to get hits and score runs something they have done ALL year.
We may not win this - but we have great coaches and a great team that have shown time and time again that they don't give up until the last play of the game. They didn't win 50+ games without everyone associated with the team contributing when needed.
I donāt see any FSU fan complaining about the CF flipping his hips and losing the ball off the wall. Or playing Burke deep and giving up Moore scoring automatically. For all those whining about the check swing , college umps just donāt ring guys up at the rate major league umps do , you can go back during the season and our games alone you could find numerous check swings that werenāt called , no one from fsu is crying about our pitcher throwing one right down the middle for strike 3 thatās not called and the inning continues and I think they wound up scoring
You guys can go to this site and get the stats for your discussion 2024 Baseball Stats - Southeastern Conference It would appear that Tenn pitching is kinda middle of the road and batting is off the chartsWell, I know this player really well and like I said, he didn't say a single bad thing about anyone on TN's staff. Can't we all just agree that pitching is our weakness?

Sarcasm? Not sure how you can look at those SEC stats and call pitching as āmiddle of the road.āYou guys can go to this site and get the stats for your discussion 2024 Baseball Stats - Southeastern Conference It would appear that Tenn pitching is kinda middle of the road and batting is off the charts
All I said was I wasn't a fan of Anderson nothing personal, I don't know the dude, pitching is by far our weakness and it's talked about on here almost every game, you don't hear fans say man, we need to get some bats out of the portal. People on here get so bent out of shape over someone not caring for Anderson, I just don't get it.
Okay, I respect your comment but, we have 2 pitchers ranked in the top 200 and one is 197. I do think we've had some good games that pitching did good, but we're here because of our bats.
I agree that the ERA is great, I just cannot figure out why hits allowed is skewed so much as compared to ERAs. I agree that the ERA is the go to stat. It would be interesting to know the number of runners left on base by the opposition. Maybe take hits plus walks minus runs allowed and divide by number of games played.( down the rabbit hole I go) We are having a great year and I love watching this team play--they have that it factor that you do not find very often.Look at innings pitched. Weāve played more games than everyone else.
Runs allowed and hits allowed are volume seats. Thatās why ERA is a stat. We are still 4th in runs allowed.
Come on, now.
We are 3rd nationally in WHIP. We may give up a few more hits because we are first in walks. But, total hits donāt mean a whole lot when weāve pitched more innings. Weāve pitched 100 more innings than Auburn, Missouri, and Ole Miss. Those teams are only ahead of us in hits by 30, 20, and 6.I agree that the ERA is great, I just cannot figure out why hits allowed is skewed so much as compared to ERAs. Probably shouldn't say anything but you do have to take in account the conference these pitchers play in. We can only use the pitchers that we can get on scholarship. Lot of teams pay more than we're going to pay for certain positions.6th to be exact, but who's counting. So if your logic is true, wonder why Hawaii isn't in this tournament since they're #1?

If we agree that pitching is a "weakness" then I'm happy as a pig in the corn crib. Considering the fact our pitching is top 5 in the country in most primary statistical categories, then this team is darn near unbeatable. Then again when you get an umpire with a strike zone the size of a basketball (at least that's what it looked like from the tracking data in that box score someone posted), your "unbeatability" is greatly diminished.Well, I know this player really well and like I said, he didn't say a single bad thing about anyone on TN's staff.
