The Official Hire Chris Burke Thread.

I like the idea. My first phone call is to Pat Murphy, though. If he declines, then you give Burke the keys.

Hiring Pat Murphy isn't the prudent course of action for a school facing the Committee on Infractions come June.

Noted. Dude was railroaded by administration out at ASSU, though. No way MH has the balls to hire him with all that looms in June. In my perfect world he gets the first call, and possibly the second.

Anyone who has played college/pro ball within the last 15 years and HAS PEOPLE SKILLS is apparently an upgrade from CTR...

Yeah, I've heard Raleigh is a strange dude when it comes to relating to players. Hamilton has made some horrible hires, but Raleigh takes the cake.

UT baseball needs to be creative to be competitive. Tradition and weather aren't on our side. I say try a young guy not far removed from the big leagues to give the program a lift. Nobody is going to give a damn if Tennessee hires some no name, run of the mill college game lifer.

Nobody is going to care until the team starts winning. A young guy nor far removed from the big leagues may give a quick lift, but if that young guy can't coach college baseball it will not matter.

There are plenty of good coaches out there that would come to Tennessee. Playing in the big leagues does not mean Chris Burke would be a good college baseball coach. The AD needs to decide that baseball at UT is going to be competitive and pay the money needed to get a coach that can do that.

Regardless of who the coach is, it is going to take a few years to catch up with the rest of the SEC.

I disagree, acutally...doesn't take long to get some top-flight players here, it really doesn't...

Woody Hunt Cumberland university. Wouldnt happen, but hes an outstanding coach in my hometown

Coach Hunt loves Spanish JUCO transfers sprinkled in with a Wilson County kid here and there. Purvis and Depew come to mind.

Excellent coach at Cumberland, but not sure his style would be sufficient in the SEC.

Sounds like a grand idea to me. At least that would mean his wife would be in the stands to gawk at (assuming she hasn't lost her looks).

Just a thought, but why not go after Corbin at Vandy? Surely we could afford to pay him more and he is an excellent coach with great people skills. Like I said just a thought and I'll hang up and listen to those that want to flame me.

I think Corbin likes Vanderbilt as I believe he looks as this being a position where they will name buildings and streets after him. Something he built practically from scratch.

It would take a lot of money to get him but I think Hamilton and our administration have already proven they will never look to go after the experienced coach at a Top-tier conference choosing up-and-coming, roll-the-dice coaches (or Todd Raleigh middling coaches)

HOWEVER, I hate anything Clemson. Tim Corbin (like all Jack Leggett disciples but one) has not gotten over the championship hump. I think Kevin O'Sullivan @ Florida will be the first.

We tried the Leggett disciple crap with Todd Raleigh, let's try someone with more Florida/Texas/California ties

He may have been "railroaded" by the ASU admin, but the NCAA did later find that Murphy and his assistants committed numerous violations and the program was given sanctions. Not going to be an option here.

Corbin wanted 800k-1mil to come here last time, nothing has happened with him to bring that number down and we're not paying that for a baseball coach, nor should we.

If that's all he wants (which i doubt) then pay him immediately. Chris Burke as head coach would be an even bigger embarrassment than Raleigh. We may never win another game.

It did not then, nor does it now, make any sense to spend a million dollars on a baseball coach. Revenues will never justify that.

As far as Burke is concerned, I don't know how that even became a "serious" name in the eyes of fans. A guy who has never coached or recruited at any level that has basically zero name recgonition outside of Knoxville and Houston is exactly what a struggling program needs, right?

Being a lifetime backup in the show doesn't automatically make you qualified to coach your college team that has done basically nothing since you left. In 2001. The idea is laughable on many levels. But yet it persists here.

Stupid premise. Hell, at least throw out an ex-Vol like Allan Cockrell...

I have on good information that Burke wants the job and has let people on the inside know. Has even gone as far as putting together a potential staff...

Chris Burke, Rick Honeycutt, Alan Cockrell...please, someone take this job. At this point, I would take Martha Burk.

I am Zack Godley's mom, just to be clear what parent is chiming in. I don't know Coach Raleigh and I will agree that something is wrong because we do have talent on our team and talking about Coach Raleigh, the pitching coach has done an awesome job. I don't know if any of you know it but Zack did not start pitching until his Junior year in high school so he still has a lot to learn. I will tell you that if Tennessee hires the coach from Coastal Caroline you will be trading the devil for the deep blue sea. When Zack decided to come to UT the coach at Coastal used words that cannot be repeated. He also told him that him that he hoped the next 3 years would be the worst years of his life and he hoped he never threw another strike. If given the chance Zack could help us win some games. Tennessee does not want Coastal Carolina's coach, trust me or ask Zack what was said to him.
