Because, starting at age 7-8, all batters see right handed pitchers 90% of time. So, both sides of plate become accustom to that.

There are not enough years in development to ever overcome that bias.

As a right handed hitter, I liked hitting off southpaws. In low levels, they typical threw slow speeds and were trying to throw junk. It was usually easy pickin's.

Leaping forward, by college, teams gather up 4-6 lefthanders. They typically are throwing stuff with fastball in 86-89 range, and breaking stuff that really moves. It is very difficult for left hand hitters to not bail out, or flinch, on the sharp breaking stuff.

As you move on up into pro ball, you will find lefties throwing as hard as the righties. They are highly sought.
