I find the reality of 4 in 10 voting age Americans approving of Trump staggering. One in ten would be sad enough.
And none of that has anything to do with Hillary.

I know exactly what you're saying. I'm saying that 40% of voting age Americans approving of Trump's job performance isn't staggering considering how well the economy has done while he is in office. People vote, think, and feel with their wallets. If he didn't have the baggage he does and was a "normal" politician, he'd have approval rating in the upper 50s to low 60s, IMO.

If the economy goes into the tank with him in office, you'll quickly see that approval rating hit Dubya, perhaps even Nixon-level lows.
