I was 10-11 when it happened and I remember watching it with Dad. Neither of us were fans of his but it was our Sunday thing to sit and watch the races for long as I could remember. When it happened I thought to myself I've seen him do worse, he'll get out. When they wouldn't hardly show the replay and I seen Schrader look in the car and call for the ambulance I knew something was not right.

I don't feel like he was at a rapid decline though, didn't he finish 2nd in the points the season before?

Yeah he finished 2nd to Bobby Labonte in 2000.

I'll never forget that 2001 500. I was a freshmen in high school and at the time my whole family were huge NASCAR and Earnhardt fans.
