Freaks me out to see Ryan Newman looking normal. I remember when Ricky Rudd crashed at Daytona years ago and his eyes were black and swelled nearly shut. They used tape to pull the swelling away from his eyes so he could see to race the next week. Times have definitely changed.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him back in the car next week at Phoenix if for just one lap before handing it off to a backup driver.

Could see that or Atlanta. Coming back at Phoenix would probably be the safer play though.

Even if he comes back for those two, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him have a substitute for Talladega. Start the race and ride in the back until the first caution and then swap.

If I was him I would, if nothing else for the first time back at a plate track. I know after going through something like that I’d definitely be gun shy on getting out there and doing that type of racing again. I don’t do it for a living though
