The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

From a PR perspective they have handled this very poorly.
Personally, as bad as I hated waiting, I think they handled that part of it as well as they could have. I’d rather have the right information out there to begin with than speculation or something to speculate on. Whether he was alive when they got him out(thank God he was) or not. Last night had an Earnhardt vibe to it. I’m not going to like, I was only 11 years old at the time of him passing and didn’t truly understand the magnitude of what I just watched when that happened. I knew he wrecked, I knew it didn’t look good but didn’t realize I just watched a man take his last breath doing something he loved. Last night for a split second I thought I watched that happen and it hit differently until I got the right information. You’re entitled to think that, you’re not necessarily wrong for it but I will disagree with you on this. It’s nothing short of a miracle that man is alive today.

I wouldn't get rid of them, but I'm not a fan of the pack racing and the implications on safety.

I don’t know if there’s any way around it. Lowering the speeds brings the cars together. Turning them loose without restrictions means less packs but also cars going up to 240 mph on the straightaways and over 200 mph in the turns still wide open. The best NASCAR can do is keep improving its safety.

I do agree that pack racing is more luck than anything else and levels out the field, but it does take great skill to drive in those packs too.

Feel bad for Corey in that moment. That is a bottomless pit feeling in your stomach.

I hit someone racing once and literally thought I killed them on impact.

Steve Newark for Roush Fenway Racing is a snake in the grass.

There’s pros and cons to both sides of this argument but I think the plates/spacer aspect has more pros than no plates. Not because I think the racing would be better, a stock car going that fast isn’t good for anybody but that’s just me.

It was just an all around awful feeling for everybody involved. Blaney seemed like he was on the verge of tears when they interviewed him

Not because of this picture but He’s going to get a big time ride within the next couple years. Write it down
Honestly, I know a lot of the guys that run around the back would be much better in better equipment but I’ve never took his driving ability seriously. Last season at times you seen flashes of improvement to his credit. I hope he does land a big ride

People will have to accept that the superspeedways aren’t going away. NASCAR will just continue its R&D to improve safety. But I do expect some changes, likely even before they go to Talladega in April.

Ross Chastain is my guy. Atleast for the ones that are on the underfunded teams in poor equipment. Put him in a HMS, SHR, Gibbs, or Penske car and he’d be top 10-15 in the standings. He can wheel.

Oh I would be shocked if something don’t change between now and Dega in April. Personally the superspeedways are part of the handful of races I look forward to watching every year.

One thing I like about the superspeedways is it gives guys like Chastain, Bubba, and Lajoie an opportunity.

I could even throw the Childress and Roush drivers in there too. Childress and Roush have fallen off so much, they’re not relevant anymore. The only chance for those two teams to get a W now is at the superspeedways.

I could definitely see that because he has the backing in every other series and he wins or runs up front pretty consistently in those cars. He was running pretty well yesterday until he got pushed down under the yellow line and then basically had to kamikaze it down into the turn. The flip side to that argument is David Ragan. He did nothing at Roush and was running for Roush when he had some of the best equipment and cars at the track.

That was where I was going with my next comment on that, it truly is the great equalizer. Honestly, if you think about it the short tracks have somewhat gotten to be the same way. There’s almost always a guy there at the end that you wouldn’t expect.

Ragan was at Roush when Roush was still good with Kenseth, Biffle, and Carl. But the equipment started getting so bad and that’s why Kenseth and Carl both left.

Agreed 100%. It’s crazy how far off Roush has fallen when not even really 10 years ago they were still winning races. Hendrick has about gotten to be in the same boat as Childress. Without Jimmie Johnson, what would they have done in the last 15 years or so? It’s not much. Gordon ran well some years but didn’t have a ton to show for it, Kahne won some races but he was feast or famine, Dale Jr didn’t do much at all. He had a few consistent years but didn’t win a ton of races like some thought he would. Mark Martin ran well for them for a while. I think I pretty much covered everybody. Now Chase is carrying the banner for them. Chase has potential to rip off a few championships I think and it would be great for the sport if he did

It’s really about the combination of equipment and driver. Right now, there’s only 4 teams that I can say a driver can win a championship with: HMS, SHR, Penske, and Gibbs.

Guys like the vet Newman, Larson, and Stenhouse got stuck on the teams that have fallen off. I think Larson and Stenhouse would be top 10 drivers on either of those 4 teams and Larson would win a championship for sure. I know Larson has come close, but I don’t think he’ll ever get over the hump at EGR. Would’ve loved to see Larson get the 48 seat.

There’s rumors that Larson and potentially Keselowski will end up at HMS next season. If that happens, be hard pressed to find a better stable of drivers in the garage than HMS. Bowman’s contract is up this year. If I had a choice between either of those two and Bowman, I like Bowman but I’m taking one of those two.

If Rick Hendrick can replace Johnson and Bowman with Larson and Keselowski, you do it in a heartbeat.

100%. That’s a no brainer to me but things rarely happen the way we think they will in nascar. Penske might end up extending Keselowski but seems odd to be that they swapped him and Joey around completely. All but the sponsors from my understand. Blaney too but Keselowski/Joey seem like they have beef now to go along with what happened during speed weeks lol

Brad had a bad ending with Hendrick, so I’m not sure if he’d consider a reunion. But if he and Rick can mend, Brad has to make that move.

I mainly want to see Larson get a Hendrick ride. He’s going into his prime and with a Hendrick seat, he’ll win a championship.

I disagree on Keselowski. He is done imo and is past the best part of his career.

Also, Larson likes a loose race car and outside of JJ, no one at Hendrick has ever done anything with a loose car.

NASCAR needs to get back to its roots. Short track racing.
I know they would never do it because of the sponsors wanting their car on the tracks the whole time..but I'd like to see heat racing in NASCAR...maybe even on a Friday night with no points just winner take all

Lol... heat racing was the death of me. My car was never good on the short run.

Never could run as much cross as everyone else for some reason.

My take on tracks like Daytona and Talledega are more from a personal perspective, they are Cathedrals to the sport. They should always have races there, NASCAR made a huge mistake years ago when they attempted to appeal to a broader audience, they alienated and in some cases abandoned large portions of their base. I understand the reason for it but they opted for a large bump in short term success when they should have settled for steady growth IMO.

I quit following NASCAR 15 years ago. I don't like the COT format, brand loyalty suffered for it. I grew up at Daytona watching the July 4th races, and at Talledega (saw my first boobies there) and Bristol, each of those races every single year. I watched in person Richard Petty win his 200th, was there when Allison went airborne and into the fence along the final straightaway showering the front rows with shrapnel. I cheered on Petty and Harry Gant.
So many good memories of Dega and Daytona especially. They are Cathedrals of the sport, the history there is palpable. NASCAR would be nothing without tracks like those.

I've begun to watch a little more recently, thinking about giving it another try. May even consider taking my daughter to a race.
If you want to get daughter to be a fan. Read up on Hailie Deegan & Natalie Decker.
