Is autism not considered a mental disability?

Disability isn't the same as retardation. There isn't anything slow about autism. It has a lot of crossover with schizophrenia. Only, autism is more consistent. Its basically being trapped in your head, to varying degrees. The most noted aspect of autism, social awkwardness isn't caused by ignorance. Its like knowing something and still not being able to do it.

Its funny cause I see some stuff Huff posts and our views are a lot alike, then I see other posts and want to punch him in his *****.

I'm a real conservative about economics and the proper size and role of government and I'm a real liberal about social issues and the bill of rights.

So that means I both make nearly everybody nod in agreement at times, and at other time I make them tell me to **** off.

Nope that's not it. You are just an insufferable c**t some days in there. Lol

I go guns a blazing at times. Seriously, it's just dip****s calling you names and misrepresenting your argument 24/7 so sometimes I become a very condescending prick. Typically don't resort to name-calling tho.

It sometimes doesn't affect a persons intelligence. I know some very smart autistic people along with ones that are disabled completely.

Yeah, I guess I'm fairly ignorant on the topic. Just did some research and it looks like it's fairly common to have other disabilities with autism, but autism itself is not a mental disability like Ape explained.

Maybe I am autistic. LOL. In all seriousness, since I started working from home nearly 4 years ago and becoming somewhat of a hermit, sometimes social events make me really nervous. I can empathize

I probably notice your, Joe and Ape comments more than others cause we interact a lot. I was actually surprised that I view most things the way you do, probably 85-90% I don't label myself Liberal or Conservative, because it changes from topic to topic. I'm a pretty free thinker and try to not let outside influences sway me one way or the other, without me studying both sides with an open mind. Seems you are kind of the same way.

Really it's all about having an open mind. I catch myself taking too strong of conclusions all the time and falling into cognitive bias traps, and that's natural but you just gotta overcome that. That's kind of why I'm a contrarian (I prefer skeptic)...internally I try to constantly challenge all my thoughts and beliefs and the same goes for others. People don't like being challenged, LOL. I'm the weird one.

I am generally the most liberal person in the pf. For some reason nobody gives me **** and some even consider my opinions. You're sometimes further right than a lot of em and you get grilled.

Honestly I didn't even know you were that liberal or that you considered yourself a liberal (I figured moderate?). I don't think you express your views explicitly enough. You kinda just facilitate conversation and you also do a better job of staying out of wasteful conversations with the peanut gallery. They successfully goad me sometimes, but mostly I try to ignore them.

I'm also one of the most apoltical regulars in the pf, so there's less chance of me chapping someone's ass. Huff is pretty outspoken.

I'm the same way, I've always been the guy that questions everything, even when I believe it. I can literally debate one side of something for an hour, then turn around and debate the other side with a different person for an hour. Don't get me wrong if I feel strongly about something, I can be an annoying azz about it. But I try to keep an open mind to any and all angles on a topic. I think people that plant themselves on a side on a topic and refuse to consider anything different are weird. Lol

At times I feel like certain disabilities are just ways we label people. Maybe some people aren't meant to be social, and it's their body/mind reacting to it. Instead we create an extremely negative connation associated with whatever is against the norm.

I just don't care. Don't believe politics is the medium through which change occurs

It's interesting how our society has created the division to where you're either Type A or B. Even in the school systems and college campuses there is a lot of the "us vs. them" mentality. I was raised very heavily to one side, and it's taken a lot of time and thought to expand my perspective.

The PF; the only place here that makes the FF look like a den of intelligence. It's mostly faux conservatives having a circle jerk, with the occasional dipwad left winger coming in to remind me why I hate them too.

This is so true. Government doesn't lead the way. They jump out in front of the parade and pretend they started it. The reason gays can get married isn't because politicians and judges took a stand. It's because majority opinion in the US supports gay marriage. Government was into segregation when America was into segregation...America went against segregation, so then the government sent the national guard into Mississippi. The government and politicians didn't care about the environment until popular opinion did. In fact, when the clean air and water acts came about, both air and water was steadily improving because we already cared so much about it. Etc.

But they always pat themselves on the back and take the credit for leading the way.
