The Official NCAA Selection Show Thread (Monday May 27 NOON EST ESPN2 )

If you prescribe to the notion that the SEC is THE league and your toughest competition- then this is our year as all 4 remaining SEC teams are on the opposite side of the bracket. We wouldn’t face an SEC team until the finals.

That's fair since we've already won the SEC regular season and the SEC tournament.

I project some mayhem in 2024.

I think Tennessee will sweep the region
I think East Carolina will have less problems winning their region than expected.
ECU will have trouble with a road Super regional appearance
TENNESSEE over ECU

I believe Oklahoma will win their region. Duke has been down this road before.
Florida State will too tough for everyone in Tallahassee. But that first game against Stetson may be their toughest test. Even if they lose that game, I think they take the region.
Oklahoma has been Jekyll & Hyde so it's a coin flip if they beat FSU in supers. I think Noles make Omaha.
FLORIDA STATE over Oklahoma

I think Arkansas's offense- or lack thereof, will cost them eventually. They will have trouble winning 3 games in region but even if they do, UVA or Miss State will get them in Supers. Arkansas won 3 close games in Fayetteville over MSU 3 weeks ago. I think UVA's offense will do well against both MSU and Arkansas- so I pick UVA. It is a good draw for UVA as I don't think their competition can score enough. UVA to College World Series but basically default.
VIRGINIA over Arkansas

I have zero faith in Arizona but I think they got the easiest region and will talk through. I believe UNC will sweep through Chapel Hill. LSU's recent run has been smoke and mirrors. UNC will sweep all the way to Omaha.
NORTH CAROLINA over Arizona

Kentucky doesn't do anything bad, bad that don't do anything all that well. The NCAA running the regional means the visiting teams will not be as annoyed with childish music and promotions. Indiana State would do well if they played UK first but they have to play Illinois. I think Kentucky has to play a "if-necessary" game but will win the region. The Oregon State region is fascinating. You can make a point that every team has a chance to win that region. My call? Beavers win it and will win in Lexington next week. Orange prevails again in Kentucky.

OREGON STATE over Kentucky

NC State got a good draw. SC is a one-man team right now offensively and Messina can't bat every inning. NC State wins. Georgia got an incredibly easy draw. If they don't sweep then they suck. I think UGA makes Omaha as that Raleigh Super Region will be a hoot to watch offensively.

GEORGIA over NC State

Clemson wins their region. Vanderbilt's cute SEC tourney run is not what they really. Tigers go undefeated as I think Vandy will have issue beating Coastal and may not even play Clemson. Oklahoma State. Why does everyone continue to wait for Florida to "flip the switch"? We thought they did with the UGA series win but really needed to do better in Hoover to build on it. They didn't. They will need to play 4 games in Stillwater to win the series and I don't see them winning 3 of 4. I also have no faith in Big10 teams. So Cowboys go to Clemson. Clemson back into Omaha because they may not even play an SEC team.

CLEMSON over Oklahoma State

UCSB does not have a real homefield advantage. They are really good but they could also lose to any of the three teams in their region. It's moot because none of them can beat Texas A&M. I'm going with San Diego to win the region and lose to Aggies in Super. I don't think the Aggies will even play the Longhorns. I believe A&M will manhandle their region and super and will go into Omaha undefeated.

TEXAS A&M over San Diego

I think due to tough draws, the ACC (4) will have more than SEC (3) in Omaha. Oregon State will be the last Pac10 team playing in college sports. However, 2 SEC teams (Tennessee and Texas A&M) will be in finals and both may be undefeated all the way to the finals. The ACC will crow about numbers going into tourney but will be largely gone after the first 5 days. The 2 left standing are the 2 most balanced teams offensively and pitching wise. That series will go three games.

Let's see how my predictions are going. My 8 College World Series picks are still standing.

TENNESSEE over ECU.
Half right I thought ECU would have little trouble in region as I was only considering a badly overrated Wake Forest. Did not obviously see Evansville coming. Think Tennessee goes to Omaha with a nine-game winning streak and 13 of 14. I don't see one team beating Tennessee twice.

FLORIDA STATE over Oklahoma.
Ditto. I followed UConn much of the season but thought they would be more outmanned than they were. UConn matches up better against FSU than Oklahoma did

VIRGINIA over Arkansas.
Ditto again. I should have stuck with my first thoughts with Arkansas. I said they would have trouble winning 3 games in region and they didn't even win 2. I was surprised how easily UVA handled Miss. State pitching. I think Kansas State gets overwhelmed by a more balanced opponent but it may take 3 games to do so.

NORTH CAROLINA over Arizona.
Ditto x 3. I said I had little faith in Arizona but JESUS! 0-2 in blowouts and didn't even play West Virginia! I was actually surprised North Carolina had as much trouble as they did with LSU. The Tigers were pulling out all the stops pitching wise that final game. UNC may have peaked early like Georgia. They will likely win the region but it may take 3 games. The Mountaineer fans will be coming out of the woodwork for tickets.

OREGON STATE over Kentucky.
I got one right. Both teams swept easily through their region. I now think Kentucky has an advantage but Oregon State has "been here before" and Kentucky has not. I see three games as the Pac12 has an "ok" chance to live another few days. But I am not as confident as I was before.

GEORGIA over NC State.
I got another pair right. But Georgia is clearly a month past their "BEST BY" date. If Bulldogs don't get their mojo back, then NC State has to be considered a favorite this weekend.

CLEMSON over Oklahoma State.
I guess Florida "flipped the switch". Clemson was able to avoid the SEC team and won only 1 game comfortably after CCU ran out of pitching. The Tigers partied like it was 1999 after the closing win. However, they can't be happy to see a talented- yet underperforming SEC team, coming to town. I think Florida has the mental edge.

TEXAS A&M over San Diego.
Again, half right. The Santa Barbara region was a 4-sided coin flip. I picked the wrong #4 seed this time around. This was the best #3 Oregon had played all season. It ends in two games this weekend and it will not be close. Texas A&M swept through their region including an emotional game over Big Brother. I have never seen a school cherish their insecurities as much as Aggies do.

So, out of 16 Regional Winners, I got ten right. (62.5%)
I picked all those six I got wrong to lose in Supers anyway.

I picked three SEC team to make it to Omaha and 4 ACC teams

Thank you for taking the time to post all that. Where do you thing Tennessee finishes? Do we have the players and staff to win it all? Hope so. When was our last National Title in anything?

I think the Lady Vols with Candace Parker was our last championship. On the men's side, we won track & field in 2001. And don't forget our big men's doubles championship in tennis from a few years ago :)
2013 softball per wiki. Not sure I believe that But it was on the web. Also a couple in track since 2010

CJH needs to work more closely with the track guys to field WRs and DBs that can outrun anything in the NCAA...remember Willie Gault?

If ultimate chaos ensues (without the Vols falling victim of course) we could see:

1 SEC team
2 ACC teams
2 PAC-12 teams
2 Big 12 teams
1 Big East team

Sounds wild but this is a legitimate CWS field if all the stars align for our boys.
