Regarding our discussion of late season midweek game cancellation, just for games listed on the ESPN score page, looks like there were at least 18 such games cancelled yesterday. I realize there may have been some weather issues in certain places, but seems fishy.

My understanding is they only have 3 days .. so Thursday to Saturday is all they have

@feathersax

Here’s what you’re smoking in Hoover this year….
‘From left to right…
Monticristo #2
Partagas Lusitania
‘Vegas Rivera
Cohiba
Romeo & Julieta Churchill
Trinidad

Nice list. I prefer the Romeo&Julieta Churchill as that is what the man himself smoked.

Forecast doesn’t seem as bad as it was yesterday. Looks like there will be a break between thunderstorms to get the games in. If they don’t won’t to risk it though they just need to play two 9 inning games tomorrow and then have two days to get Game 3 in. I hate double headers because they are usually splits but you have to do what you have to do.

SECT is meaningless. Rather rest for regionals.
I’d like to play at least 3 games to stay sharp like we would any week. If we won all of our games we would only have to play 4 anyway. Also would give us opportunity to work Russell into a game or two which could be immensely productive!

Rest in baseball isn’t always good. It’s not like other sports where fatigue is a big issue. Continuity and routine matter a lot more. Being off for a week throws teams off quite often. That’s the big complaint with the modern MLB playoffs actually

Rest is the worst possible thing for baseball players. The Dodgers and Braves have been the 1 and 2 seeds in the NL for the past 2 seasons and neither one of them made it out of the NLDS due to not playing a game for an entire week while the teams in the wildcard round got to keep their normal routine going. Baseball players are creatures of habit and whenever you take that long off between games then you lose your rhythm. There is a reason we play midweek games. Keeps the hitters going.

Here’s a hypothetical for y’all…

Would you rather Vandy sweep Ky and we win the SEC? Or Ky sweep Vandy and Vandy misses the postseason altogether?

I know there’s an in-between thread the needle scenario but that’s not in the hypothetical…
Dammit. I am not going to be able to sleep tonight.

Would rather Kentucky get swept and us win the SEC outright.

Agree as look up to my last post. I will say that it’s probably not as much correlation as we all think. In 21 we played 5 games in Hoover and luckily Gilbert bailed us out against Wright St because who knows what would have happened if we lost that game. In 22 we played 4 games in Hoover and then bowed out in supers but would say we didn’t play sharp baseball after Hoover at all. Then last year we were 1 and done in Hoover but got it together to make the CWS. Best time of year for college ball soon awaits us!

I tell you what, it’s going to be wild if the conference finishes with 5 teams having at least 19 conference wins. Only other time that happened in the conference’s history was 2016.

Best thing to do is what Mississippi State did in 2021. Get the 3 seed in the SECT and then get run ruled in your two games, then go scorched earth and win the CWS.
